Dr.Z, Go for GrameenPhone as they're the only choice. Robi (AKTel) and Banglalink do not have packages optimised for internet use. Citycell Zoom is CDMA, so thats out of the picture too.

Thanks Ammar. Sometimes it is better to have no choices. I do not have to spend time in research for the making an optimal decision.

Grameenphone has the best network coverage in BD. So you can easily go for it.

both these tests bounced it off the Dhaka server. The speed is fine at 512+ kbps (0.52Mbps) no? I suppose thats what you're paying for.
but its the latency you need to see. See how much the pingtest gives against a North American or Singapore server. If more than 300ms then usually video and voice chat gets affected.

Yes it's 512+ kbps and I'm quit satisfied expect sometimes there is network problem. I mean surprisingly sometimes there is no network.

Mobile Internet Service in Bangladesh
I think there was a thread about this topic; can't find it now. Can anyone tell me whats my best bet?
Citycell looks good with CDMA usb modem. How is the price and service?
What about GSM providers, Grameen, Robi...? What price/packages are available from them? Voice+Internet
I believe gsm would be best option for me; want one for my iphone (which I can make it serve as wifi access point). That way I can have internet on the go as well as on my laptop.
How is the speed?

GP is the way to go. I got a sim and had it cut at Basundhara mall to a microsim, and got the P6 Internet plan. Refill is easy. Speed is edge like, slow but tolerable for someone who once used a 1200 baud modem. Coverage is extensive. I didn't take my laptop this last trip, and my iPhone sufficed. I enjoyed using the map and GPS and telling the driver to take alternate routes that got us faster than his known routes and got us out of Purana Dhaka when he got lost trying to get to Lalbagh fort. So when will you get there? I return 16th night.

If you return on 16th night; how are you going to watch the match on 19th? I guess you meant 26th..

Yes. GrameenPhone USB dongle for Tk.3000. Works in all corners of the country.
Since its Bangladesh, it will be wayyy slower than what you're used to. Please see the posts above.

qubee have doubled up the their speeds ....... thats is all the users are getting the double speed with the same amount of money they used to pay. 256 kbps lines became 512, 512 becomes 1 Mbs and previous 1 Mbps lines have become 2 Mbps. the new qubee packages are on their websites.
also banglalion have also doubling up. though still i haven't seen any announcements but my sister who is currently using my connection said she has experienced 1 mbps on my 512 kbps line.
so the Wimax internet charges have become half

Slowly but surely I will move to Bangladesh InshaAllah. But now it will be frequent short visit And when I am there permanently I want fast internet.
Qubee has not reached Sylhet. And Telephone Exchange is about 3 to 4 miles from my home. So for the time being I will stick with my GP-Edge USB dongle.

last two times since 2008, I always use GP-Edge USB thing when I go home. I used it for over 1 yr in that period. It was very reliable, easy access anywhere in BD but slow! As I said earlier served my purpose

I use Banglalion WiMax. It is fast here in Dhaka but when I was in Chittagong, it was super fast! Here in Dhaka, there is some sort of Network jam.

If you subscribe to 1 MB unlimited plan then you can watch. It costs only around 2200 Taka for Qubee. Not sure about Bangla Lion.

i have been using the 1 Mbps unlimited of Bangladeshi ..... with VAT it costs 2472.50 per month ......
its good enough to watch online streams.
when u are downloading i get upto 119kBps peak speed though on average it stays about 105kBps
and though Banglaion will tell you about fair usage policy i think actually they dont have a policy of fair usage. my data transfer was about 45 GB last month.
they will tell every 24 ours u cannot use download accelerators or torrent clients for more than 4 hours BUT if u watch youtube, live sports or play online games for whole day there is no problem, lol
