India to host four-nation U-19 tournament

Mumbai, July. 5 (PTI): India will play host to a four-nation Under-19 one-day tournament in December with Vishakapatnam being the venue for the event, the BCCI said on Monday.

BCCI's Joint Secretary and convener of its Tours Programmes and Fixtures Committee Gautam Dasgupta, said apart from the hosts, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh would be seen in action in the tournament.

There would also be a five-match limited overs junior international series between the Indian and Australian Under 19 teams in north zone centres in September as part of the preparations for the January-February Under 19 World Cup in Sri Lanka, he added.

This tourny will be a great prep for Youth WC. Is there plan for any other U/19 tour ?

Another question- officially Sakib Al Hasan is not even sixteen yet, is he going to be a part of our U/19 for coming tours?

this tournament, i swear, will be better than the asia cups!!! Wow...what a news! Even though the young Tigers performed superbly in the last couple of tours, there's a big big concern about facing the Indians, who are pretty darn talented as well. Highly looking forward for this.

And yes, Sakib should be part of the team, unless there's a minimum age requirement in the tournament. He has toured Zimbabwe and Australia, why not India ?

Do u know why when our U 19 members when they get promoted to the national team they perform better then most of the mational team members? It's cause they get to play in Australia, india and England before Most of our Nat'l team members. that's whay Rahim was impressive in England and why our next batch of players will be much better then our current players

I don't think there is any requirement that the players will have to be at least 16. It's all fair as long as the players aren't over 19, which we all know how strictly our country follows. [/sarcasm]

I think ashraful was 15 years when he was in the U19 squad for U19 World Cup 2000..

and Mushfiqur Rahim was hardly 16 when he entered the U19 team...I think its fine...
