BD - Academy will have a home
When we talk about infra structure, we talk about facilities. After 8 years of test cricket we have just now layed the foundation for an academy building. Alas!! All I can say is better late than never!! Hopefully if things go well (new Govt. and all), we will have that ready by a year.
I have reservation about the location that they are building. I would have liked in Narayangonj or Bogura. Both out of the capital city, and Bogura's pitch is bouncier. That is just me.

Tigercricket reports:
GP-BCB Academy Building becoming a reality
TigerCricket.com Report
23-April-2008
| DHAKA: The Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of the Academy Building of GP – BCB National Cricket Academy was held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur today (Wednesday).
Chairman National Sports Council General Moeen U Ahmed was the Chief Guest at the ceremony and unveiled the foundation stone of the facility which is expected to become Bangladesh cricket's centre of excellence for training.
"I would like to thank Grameenphone for coming forward wholeheartedly and spending 60 million Taka on the Academy and I am sure the rest of the amount needed will come from the BCB and other sponsors interested in seeing this Academy finished on time," said General Moeen during a brief speech adding that he was eagerly waiting to see the Academy building become a reality.
"This Academy is expected to be completed in 12 months and we are all looking forward to April next year to see the new Academy."
"We want to see a successful Bangladesh cricket team that is able to win both at home and away and I am sure this Academy will go a long way in ensuring quality training for our talented cricketers. We want to see our players smiling at the airport when they return home and not with their heads down."
The NSC Chief also informed that the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium and adjacent areas would be used solely for cricketing purpose.
"You will be happy to know that the National Sports Council has given the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium to Bangladesh Cricket Board for 15 years. We have also decided to close down all the shops around the Stadium. Also, the vacant spaces around this venue will be handed over to the BCB."
BCB President Major General Sina Ibn Jamali, Grameenphone CEO Anders Jensen, top officials of both organizations and invited guests were present at the programme.

Good initiative. But it was long over due.

what a waste of money, why not chuck the national cricketers out of their grand homes make and them live in bostis and let the academy players stay in the national players homes.

Will the home of cricket have a sculpture of Ash for all his match winning innings, when we were proud to be minnows?
