Default My opinion: BD played better in 2nd ODI than in 1st

First of all: 1 among the top 5 - specialist batsman have stayed at the wicket - or at least has shown some effort to stay at the wicket - Rajin Saleh.

Secondly, The 2 batsman among the 7/4 total were debutants (Moniruzzaman) and nearly debutant (Nafees Iqbal - only his 2nd ODI). The other 2 just played rash strokes.

There was one major partnership, no matter how the run-rate was at that stage.

But most importantly, the batsman - doesn't matter the tenth and eleventh batsman - were able to stay at the wicket until the end.

In short, if you consider that Bangladesh was not a test playing country, like for example, consider that it is 1986 or 1988, Bangladesh is new to the ODIs, forget that Bangladesh won the ICC trophy in 1997, forget that Bangladesh played and has beaten 1 test playing country - Pakistan (and 2 other ICC associates) then the total of 137/9 in 50 overs does not sound bad at all.

In fact, this is how Bangladesh used to play in the pre-One day status era.

Now thinking in constructively, we knew it before the match, or rather the whole one day series started that we will be able to make 1 out of 2 One Day matches competitive against England. And considering the little fact that this is only the first time that we're playing against England in a full series, that is, 3 ODI matches in a row, so that 1 out of 2 becomes 1 out of 3 One Day matches. And if we consider other little factors like 2 debutants played in the team (Nafees Iqbal and Moniruzzaman), 1 most experienced batsman is not playing all too well (Habibul Bashar), and the others are only Hannan Sarkar, Alok Kapali and Rajin Saleh.

Among whom, only Rajin Saleh clicked today. In the last match, Hannan Sarkar had clicked. Probably in the next match Alok Kapali will click - if he's given the chance. And from the last Pakistan one day series, we have only these 3 batsman who can play ODI cricket like a ODI match really is.

I didn't see the England innings, but from what I have heard from my father who had watched the match, until Rana dropped the catch of Andrew Flintoff, which was a big mistake, the bowlers and fielders of Bangladesh were giving a fight.

In quote, I would like to say that for example, consider that it was a 250 match total that we would have to chase, then somebody like Rafique and Rana came into the crease.
And then the same thing happened - that Rafique ran Raana out. If that was the situation at the time, then we may as well have been lose the match just by a whisker.

In the BD batting too, besides 2 catch drops by England fielders, and a few very close lbw shouts not given by our very own umpire Akhtaruddin Shaheen, there were some throws by the English fieldsmen, if those attempts were accurate to break the wickets, then we might not have reached a total of 137 for 9 in the end.

Especially the new guys - Mushfiqur Rahman Babu, Monjurul Islam Raana, who are supposed to play for Bangladesh for a long time in the future - they have to learn a lot about running between the wickets. Mohammad Rafique, Khaled Mashud also needs to learn a thing or two like one lacking in knowledge of running between the wickets and the latter is lacking in knowledge of scoring at more than run a ball.

Its disappointing in one way that we are still unable to do 'attacking and defending' i.e., 'attack is the best policy of defend' tactics. Whenever we try to apply such a tactic, we lose too many wickets; not that it was the reason behind the 7/4 scenario. I am referring to the fact of Rajin getting out in his attempt to increase the run-rate. When he was just defending and defending, he was doing pretty well. But as soon as he tried to go attacking, he gave his wicket away, although not before some major repairing works.

Default ODI performances in Aus and 1st part of Pakistan were no fluke

At least now we can tell that Bangladesh's ODI batting performance in Australia (1st 3 ODIs) and the first part in Pakistan (1st 3 ODIs among 5 ODIs) were no fluke.
