Default Moni brings glory for the country

[size=1][i]
Moni will become the first Bangladeshi to be the on-field umpire in the game's highest version. Australian Rod Tucker will be his partner in the middle while Englishman Nigel Llong will be the TV umpire and Australia's David Boon the match referee. This group will also conduct the three-match one-day series.
"I am definitely very pleased. Ever since I began umpiring in 2003, I have always wanted to stand in a Test match," he said in an instant reaction yesterday.
Fellow international umpire Nadir Shah congratulated Moni on his rise as an umpire. "I am very happy that he has become a Test umpire. He is as good as anybody in the world. I am sure he will do well," he said.
Sharfuddowla Ibne Shahid Saikat, the third Bangladeshi on the international panel, was also pleased and pointed out that it would help umpires in the country.
"Definitely I'm very happy. As Moni bhai goes up a step, so do all of us. One must also remember that he has gone there due to his on-field performance," said the former cricketer.
Moni has stood in 36 ODIs and three Twenty20 Internationals. He was also the first from the country to stand as a neutral umpire in a one-day international when he stood in the South Africa-Zimbabwe three-match series in October 2010.
As a left-arm spinner, Moni has played 10 Test matches (over 2001-03) and 29 ODIs for Bangladesh from 1990 till January 2002. Apart from the international career, Moni was a dependable all-rounder for the country during its time as an Associate Nation.
Moni will leave for New Zealand on January 19.

Really appreciate the decision by ICC, Moni's umpiring has improved leaps and bounds ever since he officiated in the series between SA and Zim, he was outstanding in that series. In the last year or so, he made some brilliant decisions and overall did much better than most of the elite umpires he officiated with. Wish him all the very best and may he be the first umpire in the Elite Panel from Bangladesh.

Moni deserves to be included in the elite panel much more than that joke of an umpire called Tarapore.

Congratulations !!

Not to undemine him, but we as cricket Nation/Team/Fans have a great sacrifice and contribution for him to achieve this. We were upset at times but we supported him in his early days at some cost. So we all have a good reason to be happy in his achievement. Hope he turns into a great umpire.

I second that. Tarapore was/is a travesty.

Question: Do you have to belong to a test playing nation to become a test umpire?

Has his umpiring improved of late? I haven't noticed.

I've always though Nadir Shah was the far superior umpire. But congrats to him I guess.

No congrats to Moni...never....with so many wrong decisions against us,
He singlehandedly killed many matches...
A classic one to remember, HBW (hand before wicket) against Shakib

To me he is a disgrace.

Congrats to Moni. Certainly an achievement as a country as well.

Moni has always been a great "oiler" and has often oiled his way up and in the team for a longer period during his days, often at the expense of Rafiq.

His oiling has done him good over the years and finally on the verge of something "historic" here.

Wish him all the best of luck.

Agreed. And congrats Moni. Wish you all the best.

But, I don't want him when Tigers play UNLESS he transformed himself into a brave one. He becomes "mechu bilai" when Tigers play against the "big boys" !
