Not 100% sure if Vaas can contribute. He hasnt had much success in the SL coaching role, currently performing more of a scouting role identifying new bowlers. Also on an assignment coaching Under 14 and Under 16 players at an academy in India.

BCB might have to spend well in this department to attract a top notch coach. Might be worthwhile targeting someone from Australia.

Mashrafe was asked a question:
Quote:
You said that Courtney Walsh's presence in the dressing room has made a difference to you. Have you made any little technical changes to your approach?
Answered:
Quote:
I have never made too much of a technical change in my action. I have had times when my confidence has gone down, but I never really need such a change. Courtney Walsh's arrival coincided with me taking the new ball. He helped me build my confidence.
He has his way of tuning a bowler. He is a legend, so even you are talking to him about random things, he will tell you something which makes you think. It takes you to a different level in your mind. I always speak to him, ask him so many questions. I know that my success depends on my confidence, not through any major changes.
On the morning of the second ODI against England last year, he told me to take five wickets. I ended up getting four wickets, and when I returned to the dressing-room, he said that you didn't keep my word for one wicket.
As long as the players get benefit and produce the results, the fans/distractors will come around in time. It takes time for a new coach to adapt to a new environment, new players. Give him his time and dues.

From what I noticed as a mere fan and supporter (from the outside), Walsh has been absolute worthless of a bowling coach for the team.

I don't know what you all say but I think he is primarily responsible for messing up Mustafizur's game by making him try to forget his strengths which is the cutter and try making him more of a conventional swing bowler which he never was as a result decreasing his control over the ball. And the changed action is not helping him, this is what happens when you put young talents in the hands of wrong people.

BK bhai, translate nah mon....

I'm on the fence with walsh at the moment. I don't he's doing a better than he ought to.

Mashrafe said that walsh somehow helped him with his bowling...

But, if he's not providing results, then he should see the door.

Once again, someone please translate. Thanks

While recovering from his injury, there were reports about how fitness coach/bowling coach was trying to change his action.

That possibly fud. up his mystery ball, or at least made it less effective.

Hi bowling action doesn't look as smooth as it did prior to his injury.

Some people in any given job have some thing called immediate impact: like Pont, Heath and Julian Fountain did with Bangladesh. Walsh has failed in this respect as a Bowling coach of Bangladesh.

I think his honeymoon phase is over. Given that this was his first major coaching stint, We give him the benefit of doubt. Heath on the other hand, was vastly experienced and proven at the coaching level. Only reason why he was underrated was due to his country of origin and that's a perception bias.

Only credit I can give Walsh is that Mash has improved under Walsh, other than that pretty much most bowlers digressed. that pinpoint accuracy is lacking from Taskin and Fizz and even Rubel Hossain.

Pont?

There was a article with stats..

Where it showed under Pont Shafiul/Rubel had the worst economy rate amongst test playing nations.. stats related to ODI.

Unfortunately can't remember exactly, but I read those stats. Pont was another garbage to be honest.

I could give Walsh an excuse if it were only Fizz who lost his accuracy under Walsh. But the same thing is also happening to Taskin and Rubel.

An experienced campaigner like Mash does not really need a mentor. The focus should be more on who can benefit less experienced pacers currently in the team and in the pipeline.

Mashrafe is the sole reason why Walsh still have the BD bowling coach job.

The legend has been in top form since 2015! our highest wicket taker...

And that sort of help cover up the poor performance of other pacers..

Maybe not wicket wise, but like Eshen mentions, bad bad accuracy...

Biggest Lesson Learned: Tags do not matter when it comes to coaching. Maybe someone from Bangladesh who played in the early 2000s may not have world class stats to show for it but he can be a world class coach. Check Haturasinghe stats in cricinfo. Just because someone has a "legend" tag, that doesn't necessarily make him a great coach.

still doesn't change the stats of having the worst economy rate... out of all test playing nation bowlers...
if only I could remember the title of that article..

This seems to be the only match where people often cite to say how he has done well for us as bowling coach.

Obviously, BK cares a lot about you. Alas! The same cannot be said about your fellow countryman.

Personally, I am on the fence too with regards to Walsh. So far the result has been very unimpressive. Streak is very much missed here. I am not so worried about Mustafiz as he is coming back from injury. But, other young pacers have been noticeably off colour.

those were the days when Razzaq and Shakib used to torment opposition with SLA. so pacers fought for the remaining few wickets

Yes they fought for the remaining wickets, not doubting that.

But that still doesn't change the fact under Ian Pont both Rubel and Shafiul had one of the worst SR.

If Ian was a good coach, I'm sure expert from the world would have requested for his service, apart from the PSL league... no other franchises... have shown interest in him..and I am only talking about franchises, forget about getting a international role...

But without discrediting too much, he was still our bowling coach. Wish him the best of success.
