If Mushy is in form, he can play up in the batting order. We can accomodate a wicket keeper in Jahurul or anyone else as well, than wasting a position by Roq or Ash.

Default Mushfiqur Rahim relishes underdog tag

It has been long enough in my book... We are not under dogs, but under tigers...
http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesig...php?nid=171903

Mushfiqur Rahim affirmed that the Tigers were hardly under any pressure despite opening their World Cup against the form team, India, at home.

The Bangladesh cricket team trained under lights at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur for the first time since March and the wicketkeeper-batsman said playing at home against India would be beneficial to them.

"We have nothing to lose. They (India) will be under pressure as they are going to play at our home," said Mushfiqur while speaking to the media.

"We can play all out against India. If we had played against Ireland or Netherlands in our first game, the pressure would be firmly on us to win but now it is like us playing against Zimbabwe. They [India] will be expected to win.

"It won't be easy or too hard [playing at home]. If we think of it as a player, it is an advantage to us. We are playing at home, in our own conditions and in front of our crowd," he added.

In the space of four years, Mushfiqur has become a senior professional in the team, and is among the six players to have played in the 2007 World Cup. Probably he doesn't look like it but the Bogra lad's contribution, especially with the bat, is important for the Tigers. "It is great that I've become a senior player in the team. I will hope to use the experience of the previous World Cup to good effect," he said.

Though his batting usually stands out, the 23-year-old said he was happy with his job behind the stumps. "Over the last one year, I would say that I am having the best time with my wicketkeeping. I am happy to continue on what I have been doing," said Mushfiqur.

Unlike the wicketkeeper though, Nazmul Hossain was pleased to be part of the 15-member squad as he had missed out on the previous occasion. "Definitely I'm happy. I missed out on the 2007 World Cup, I was a standby player then. I am as excited as I was during my debut game," said the Sylhet-born paceman.

"I am enjoying my role here but yes, I do feel I was slightly unlucky with missing matches. Last year I played a good game against New Zealand but missed the next three due to a hand injury," he added.

Lets get one thing clear. This is something bugs me a lot. We ARE underdogs. I hate how the fans and some of the players try to argue this fact. Last time in WC07, Bashar was banging his head around, saying "we are not minnows, we not minnows". What are we then? There is nothing wrong with being an underdog. There has been some great underdog stories in sports, and we will be one of them.

Lets not try and fight that. It's only going to hurt us. Enjoy the tag and move forward. The tag will go away on it's own, when the time comes.

^Underdogs and minnows are two different things.

And can we not put all this in BCF's Preparation thread? I've read the same news in two other threads.

People will still come and say he sucks...he's a test match type player....but tell u what......he's in the same ranks as tamim and shakib...he's just been mishandled always....make him our top order batsman, and then u'll see a solid middle order batsman with an average in the mid to high 30s in no time

I found this quite surprising, many others might find it rather interesting.

http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine...ry/513172.html

Mushfiqur Rahim
The youngest man ever to play in a Test at Lord's, Mushfiqur looked barely taller than the stumps when he bounced out to face England aged 16 in May 2005. He still resisted for longer - 85 minutes - than any of his team-mates as they collapsed to 108 all out on the first day. Mushfiqur has grown a little since then, but Bangladesh's regular wicketkeeper - and vice-captain - is still only about 5ft 3in tall.

I still remember his first test innings in Lords, when he refused to give up despite the wreckage around him. I will have to be honest, I have been very disappointed in his performance because I expected a lot from him, he wasn't utilized properly by the team management, i believe in tests we should choose a specialist keeper and just let him bat at #4.

But you can't blame the management for his failure thus far, but he has shown signs of turning around. I very dearly hope that he becomes a consistent run getter and becomes a dependable character behind and infront of the stumps.

He has a cool head over his shoulder. I believe he has a lot to offer in longer versions. Though he probably will be replaced by the likes of Anamul/Mithun/others in 20/20 or even in ODI.

He has improved as a keeper and now poses better technique and ability to read the situation as a batsman as well. Go go Mushy boy

His issue is getting set, he either gets well set = 2 overs left or he gets out trying to get set... He has a strike rate of 65... He is to slow . But if he is set after a collapse, then expect fireworks inshallah
