Very disappointed
For the first time ever I was really excited and into a Test match with BD in it. I went to sleep last night hoping they would put up a decent score and I was very dissapointed to see the score today.
I guess they really have a long way to go.

We, fans, really need to keep our expectations under control, not forget the reality. Otherwise, it will hurt real bad, like this, everytime.
We can not score good in both innings, yet. We can however score one 300+ either first innings or second. This is nothing new, and so far, nothing has happened to prove us, it has changed.
Expect the best, be prepared for the worst.

Look, Murali is a damn good bowler, and he cut loose. These things happen.
At the end of the day, Sri Lanka need to actually score the runs, and even if they win, they know that they've been in a tough, hard fight.
Yeah, the target is 50 less than I'd like, but this game raises the bar again for Bangladesh.
Remember, your good players are young, and time is on the Tigers side.

Nice comments IanW. Credit should be given where credit is due. Murali didn't get 590+ wickets just like that. He is in a class by himself. He'd be the Man of the series if he plays the second match.
Every test team has faced Murali's wrath one time or another.

I am disappointed.
And it has nothing to do with Bangladesh losing this Test match and everything to do with the old habit of BD batsman collapsing like a pack of cards.
47/0 and then 49/2
And then 180 something all out.
Damn you!!

I know DJ the collapse really hurt. I mean your 47/0 and then my God the ball Nafees Iqbal poked at, I mean comon!
And then once JO was out I had a feeling they would collpase.
I wake up the next morning and guess what, my fears had come true. If it wasnt for Rafique's 40 it would have been even more embarrassing.

Well, collapse can be from 2 cause.
1. Batsmen freaked out, did not keep their cool.
2. Bowler was on fire, he was unplayable.
Type 1 does not mean its type 2 also, or type 2 does not mean its type 1 also.

Yeah, it is very disappointed.........This morning I've logged on to the net to see the score of this 1st test between BD v. SL and I've found "Sri Lanka progress towards victory" on cricinfo.com.
How long do we have to wait to see some good news in the test mach???

For the first time, I am NOT disappointed. Because I knew this was gonna happen.
All our specialist batsman except Ashraful getting to 20s and 30s and then getting out, Kapali showing no sign of being 'rejunivanated', Farveez Maharoof getting his first ever test match fifty against us, kind of like kothakar kon Dion Ebrahim getting first ever and only ODI century against us - it was all giving me indications that something similar to the bad things are on the way.
It was either Sri Lanka scoring 500 odd runs or Bangladesh batsman scoring less than 200/250.
It was giving me such indications because it is very difficult to score (or to survive) in the 2nd innings for our batsman on a turning 3rd day pitch for a long time, especially against a team with a good spin attack, and Sri Lanka has one of the two best spinners in the world (Shane Warne is the other) - in Muralidaran.
Since Sri Lanka scored only 338 in their innings, so for Bangladesh to lose, it was the only other option available for Bangladesh to lose the match - to have a batting collapse.
Now can some of you understand / realize that why I have become so pessimistic over the years? It is very difficult to be optimistic for the Bangladesh team given the consistent poor performance of the Bangladesh team at the International stage.

LOL... typical fwullah comment... I just knew it coming... anyways I think bangladesh did well to restrict Srilanka below 350 and we should give them some credit for that... true we had a batting collapse in the second innings but then again... playing murali in the second innings on a subcontinent would never be easy...

Wait to see how our spinners fare on the 4th day before getting too disappointed.
Granted that this performance is significantly improved over our previous ones against SL. But I can still relate to some of the disappointments.
SL should have been disposed off before getting to 250. And this may have been done successfully if Bashar went for it. He did not.
Bangladesh batting in 2nd Innings is not a disgrace. But I think it is fair to call it a disappointment .... a 219+ score would have given us 200 runs' lead and I do not think it was impossible.
Anywayz, it is obvious that a loss is more than 99% likely now. But I think if our spinners get the ball early tomorrow, we may lose by a few wkts only. Not THAT bad.
And I'd grade our overall performance to be A-
Better things may happen in 2nd test.

it's all about how our players, including the captain, learn from the mistakes in this match and improve on them in the next. although there are a few areas of disappointment, such as batsmen getting out after settling themselves in, letting sri lanka take a lead (they should have been bundled out cheaply once they reached the 180 odd/5 stage) and a few dropped catches, the overall performance was pretty satisfactory in my opinion. besides, the odi success was an added plus: it is my understanding that you have to be a descent odi side before making any kind of impression in tests, which is a way more difficult version. one should recall that sri lanka was a pretty crappy test side (compared to their odi standards) even after winning the world cup in 1996.

so guys we are still stuck on " winning is not everything, participation is what matters." lol! i understand murali is one the best bowlers in the world but i dont think he is unplayable. why do we always look for lame excuses? the pitch wasn't even turning a great deal. the condition was ideal for batting. its just we dont have anybatsman in our team who has a head on top of his shoulder! i dont understand how can u guys still say that "we gave a good fight". that doesn't mean anything, the reasult does. oh and for the optimistic ones hwo thinks we still have a chance. if somehow bd manages to win this one. i think the bowlers should pick up the bat and start beating the crap out of the batsmans and we should telecast that on dilma tv and willow tv. pay per view..........." new technic of teaching kids the fundamental of batting".

Even though it is an off topic, I would say that Nafees Iqbal is the main culprit to have the Test turn towards Sri Lanka's favour. The way he got the suicidal out was nothing but a moral downpour for the rest of BD batsmen. It was shocking to see a Test player gets out in such a stupid manner!

Its suicidal to go to a test match with five batsman ! Not even Australia would dare do that. Do you guys really beleive Khaled Mashud is a test no.6? I am fine with his grit and character and all, but man..you need a pure batsman at no.6. He is not that. And it is obvious that they don't consider Alok a batsman as he came to bat at no.7 and strangely he didn't get to bowl. But thats anotehr matter. This team selection was not correct to begin with. Had ashraful not bailed us out in the first innings, I believe we would be talking about this on Tuesday. This team was very weak on batting.
