Exclamation Outcome of Bangladesh matches when Ashraful plays

In the recent ODI series I noticed a trend. When Ashraful played the first 2 ODIs Bangladesh lost and when Ashraful was dropped Bangladesh won. I decided to do a little research and the statistics are astonishing.

Results of Bangladesh ODI matches in the last 2 years

Bangladesh have won only 3 matches in the last 2 years when Ashraful plays. They've won 12 games without him. In the last 2 years the win/loss ratio with Ashraful is 0.19 yet without him the win/loss ratio rockets to 0.92.

Ashraful's performance in the 3 wins:

14(29) v England 2010
1(6) v Ireland 2010 9-0-42-2
15(24) v Zimbabwe 2-0-11-0

Bangladesh wins in last 2 years: Batting Avg 10 SR 50.8
Bowling Avg 26.5 Econ 4.82

His average has been 10 with a strike rate of 50. Hardly match winning figures.

In the last 2 years Bangladesh have beaten the top 8 sides 7 times. Ashraful played in only 1 of those, the win against England, a paltry 14 off 29 balls that's hardly a match winning knock.

It is possible that team morale decreases when he plays due to his inconsistencies and low average. Hopefully these stats dispel the myth that Bangladesh can only beat the top sides when Ashraful plays or that we require his Eid innings.

Very good observation...Ashraful kufa!

Well done Tiger Manc, interesting to see all that figure, even without this figure people should know how good he really is last few years.

BC is getting slowly divided over Ash issue. Very soon there will be an all out war between Ash lovers and haters. I refuse to choose sides.

Can I request the same analysis on Tamim?

If memory serves me right, in 2010/11, the only matches Tamim didn't play was the NZ series...which was a 4-0 result.

You can play with stats all day long and bring out as many theories as you want. Fact is his performance has been really poor even by his standards for the last 2 years and he has only himself to blame and the selectors for choosing him. However why should he take the blame for other player's failures?

An individual is responsible for their own actions even if the devil has influenced his mind. Also coach law himself has said

"He's a great guy to have around the dressing-room. His work ethic has been outstanding, whether it be gym sessions, training, batting, bowling or fielding, he is always there. You want to see him have success but unfortunately, other things have come in."

http://www.espncricinfo.com/banglade...ry/537129.html

So you can see that he is not a negative player. Its fair to blame him for his shocking performances and be angry at the selectors for his continued selection however its totally unfair to blame failures of a whole team made up of 11 players on one man and also indirectly blaming him for the failures of other players.

We can keep him in dressing room to serve tea or tell some joke .....
And on the field as a ball boy. now he is anything but a batsman and that demoralize other performers and fans alike.

It’s becoming annoying now! What’s the point of having Official Everything about Asharaful thread when we are opening thousand of thread for him every day? We can’t even take breathe here at BC without his name. In Bangladesh everybody is divided by Al and BNP. And we are following that culture at BC also. Either you are a ash lover or hater. We always refuse to accept the reality. Who ever play for BD we want him to do well. We are here to support our team. Why lovers and hates associations? It sounds like a political party in BD.

Go Bangladesh Go. I am always positive about the win. Does not matter who is playing and who is not.

In a team context this is unfair to Ash.

SN has a 6-6 record in the 2010-11 timeline with 5 of those wins vs. G8.
Tamim has a 15-29 record.

by that logic SN should be the first person to be selected. at the same time, without Tamim we are 4-0. So leaving Tamim out maybe the magic formula.

I am okay with the analysis showing that Ash did not have any meaningful contribution to the wins (maybe with the ball vs. IRE in the WC) but to draw stats to support a conclusion that including him in the XI is a foregone loss is totally unfair.

The players should be picked by role and their performances. And based on that Ash should not be in the team, NOT because he is 'Kufa'.

Great thread An average of 10 and a SR of 50?!? That is just pathetic If people still think that Ash should be on our team after seing these stats, I believe they're almost as pathetic as Ash and his form.

Raynman, the OP takes avg s/r etc into account too, dont pick a specific part and view it in isolation. The conclusion is not merely based on a single premise.

bingo, its akin to arguing that India has lost more matches with Sachin in the lineup that NZ has lost with Chris Martin, ergo Martin is a better bat.

if i were a selector, i wouldn't have dropped Ash from the CTG test...but of course I'm a bit biased (read: blind), aren't i? but now that he's dropped, i'm glad his replacements (rock or naeem) both scored runs. we don't want to replace one deadweight with another. besides Ashraful is one of the rare ability-laden batsman in Bangladesh who for non-cricketing reasons hasn't panned out. if Ash gets it together in the domestic circuit, it doesn't matter who takes his place, because he has the quality to force a comeback. and if he doesn't, at least we won't be embarassing ourselves against the lesser sides like WI, NZ, ZIM at home.

i've said it before, and i'll say it again. if Sir had even lived up to half of his potential, there wouldn't be any room even for batsman like Tamim in the side. of course thats not completely true, but i hope people get the point.

in the meantime, if Rock and Naeem can't build on the success of the last Test, then I say bring in Anamul and perhaps Asif Ratul. and i don't wanna hear people bitching about it being too early or whatever, because the consistency these guys are showing proves they're a cut above anyone we've had so far. you can't replace unfulfilled talent (Sir Ash) with distilled mediocrity (whoever from the current bunch will prove to not be good enough).
