All of the ruling eilte looking out for number one of course, past, present AND future ! The current one still has my conditional support as long as the election roadmap is followed as they will be, Inshallah.
The current ruling elite's negligence of the TRADITION of human rights violations, especially with regards to the urban poor, by the law enforcement agencies is reprehensible. They should also have have been more bold with the war crimes issue but I haven't given up hope yet.
But comprehensive reforms, all sanctioned by elected parliament(s) but never enforced for obvious reasons, such as the separation of the Judiciary, the EC and the ACC, and more importantly, the strengthening of local governements are positively revolutionary and major steps in the right direction.
All those BAL/BNP/JIB/BJP
dalals expecting a return to the cozy years of brigandage before 1/11 are in for a BIG SURPRISE after the elections, IRREPECTIVE of the results. Vote theft, over-voting and terrorizing opposition voters may actually be a thing of the past with the ID Card and database, and that changes the "game" completely. Law and order is no longer an easy political tool to rape our people, and that's a major step forward.
The human rights movement in Bangladesh is growing at the grassroots level Mashallah.
