Nothing will happen unless the management of Biman is changed. Biman is having it's worst time ever. Lack of skilled man power along with lack of quality aircrafts is making it impossible for them to continue. As long as Biman continues as govt company nothing will happen.
I have a very bad experience in Biman while coming back from Singapore. The air craft was really dirty inside clearly showing that cleaners are not fulfilling their responsibilities. What amazed me is big mosquitoes inside. I called a steward and asked him to spray aerosol. He said "Parbo na. Aerosol nai".

Some high officials from Boeing were visiting Dhaka about a month back; I think the aircrafts ordered are being delayed to be delivered. Don't know why.

None so far. B772s flown only by emirates, SIA and Malaysian.
biman should be privatised wholly. Its rotten to the core, the corruption and politics inside is unbelievable. The ATC, Airport management, etc should also be contracted out!

I'm not sure, they replaced one of the B777 flights with an A330. The other B777 still flies at night, not sure if its B772 or B773

Read in an aviation forum that Biman may change its livery starting with the new 777's ; then again the new colors dont show Biman anywhere, could this be a chartered/official plane

Looks good so far... but looks very much like Cathay Pacific livery. I wish the green was more like the 'greem' we are used to, and had some more red on it. The current livery is very classy... I have to admit....
it has been re-branded to Bangladesh Biman from Biman Bangladesh Airlines. The new 777s scheduled to join the fleet next year will have these colors on them as welll.

Once I was travelling to Ctg and the flight attendant (who btw did neither carried the allure nor the sexiness of those calendar stewardess) spilled entire cup of hot tea on me. Someone really should be training them properly and change the management...notwithstanding the toilet jam saga of the year.

I dont know why they dont opt for the Russian planes. Brand new Illyushin 96 planes are are like $40-50 million while Boeings equivalent is $250 million according to wikipedia.
Tupolevs which are medium range are also like 35 million while its sister aircrafts in boeing are $100+ million.
Instead of buying old junk from other airlines, they could have brought brand new cheaper planes from Russia.

illyushin, tupelov, antonev are all highly inferior compared to boeing and airbus. there is a reason why the price is lower - its an inferior product, when it comes to the service sector, you can't expect mcdonald's to compete with the babylon club.
even within boeing and airbus, there are pros and cons. according to my pilot friend, airbus has the superior technology, but as is usually the case between EU and US, sacrfices with efficiency over comfort. boeing may not be as efficient but puts passenger comfort to a totally new level.
in fact, illyushin i think has stopped manufacturing their IL-96 widebody jet because they themselves have admitted its crap compared to the B777/787 or the A330/340/350
only the ex-Soviet bloc buys russian planes, and other blacklisted airlines like Cubana and Iran Air.

correct ! old russian origin airliners are plagued with low serviceability rates and high cost of maintenance. much of the low upfront acquisition cost vis-a-vis boeing/airbus gets erased in the long run due to high running costs. russian aircrafts are OTOH very rugged and can handle rough use, unlike their western counterparts.
that however is not a factor in the running of a major airline where efficiency is the primary factor and as AF has mentioned, production of passenger version of IL-96 has stopped.

Looks like Biman is doing good
Quote:
Biman earns Tk 35cr in first quarter
BSS, Dhaka
The profits earned by Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited marked a significant increase during the first quarter of the current 2009-2010 fiscal year.
The airline earned Taka 34.45 crore profits during the first quarter of the current fiscal year (July to September 2009).
The profits earned by the national flag carrier amounted to Taka 24 crore during 2008-09 financial year, according to a press release of Biman.
These earnings were made from different fields, including carrying passengers and cargoes, and Biman's catering and poultry projects.
Earlier, the airline made Taka 5.91 crore profits during the 2006-07 financial year.
After becoming a public limited company, Biman Bangladesh has been undertaking various programmes for modernizing it.
To make Biman passengers feel "once Biman always Biman", the airline has brought about some qualitative changes in its service concept.
Biman has been aiming to achieve the goal of becoming a truly international commercially viable airline of the region with its warmth and friendliness, care, safety record, traditional hospitality and comfort of services it offer. Biman now carries the nation's flag to South Asia, South- East Asia and Far-East, Gulf and Middle Eastern region and European countries. A steady progress has been made with better services ensuring increased passengers.
The corporate body is 'Biman Bangladesh Airlines Ltd' while the trading name is Biman Bangladesh Airlines. Biman is a member of IATA. Incorporated in Bangladesh, it came into being on January 4, 1972 initially with a Second World War vintage Dakota, DC-3, a gift from the Air Force.
Biman is now paying attention to making the airline more attractive to the traveling people by fixing priority on two objectives. One is to provide more comfort to the passengers and the other is to maintain schedule regularity.
Biman Flight Catering Center (BFCC) - modern flight kitchen of the airlines - has the capacity of producing 8,500 meals a day and is providing excellent cuisine not only to Biman but also to some other international airlines operating to and from Dhaka.
Biman Poultry Complex, a potential subsidiary of Biman, was formed in 1976 and was put into operation in November 1980 to create a profit-earning concern to augment the cash flow of Biman.
