Default Dhaka Gladiators not included in Champions League (Qualifier)

Its a sad news, was hoping to see bangladeshi's perform well in champion league.

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/conte...ry/629528.html

I am not sure if the is time for DG to be included.

how come slpl team got chance, they were no where near any bpl team especially dg can potentially win against any of their team...
really disappointed but again this is a private indian tournament so things are going as expected

This is the part where, most of the fans gets on the Indian abuse bandwagon and flood the social media with atrocious comments, calling and labeling degenerate names without any sound & substantial proof behind the omission.

Shame that we were omitted yet again. Hope we can be a late addition to the tournament. We should keep pushing until we get DG in for the qualifiers. A Zimbabwe domestic team should also have the right to have a team there being a Test member.

If we have any self respect we need to stop begging to be included. They don't want us... message received, lets move on

Agree with you but disagree at the same time. At the end of the day, we lose out. We already lack exposure and play the least amongst the Test sides not named Zimbabwe. I know it's a T20 tournament but some cricket is better than no cricket. Also it would help our players out playing against some very good sides and help them out in pressure situations. So it's to our benefit that we keep pushing to get included. I'd be completely fine if we were included for the qualifiers.

Tony Greig wrote a very good piece about the BCCI. Think it's an appropriate article for here

Greig implores India to govern for the world game

George Dobell

Tony Greig has appealed to the BCCI to abandon self interest and "embrace the spirit of cricket and govern in the best interests of world cricket, not just for India and its business partners."

Greig, the South Africa-born former England captain, utilised his invitation to deliver the MCC Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture from Lord's, to call upon India to "accept its responsibility as leader of the cricket world" and ensure that the long-term future of Test cricket and the less powerful Test nations were prioritised above short-term commercialism.

Including a bangladeshi team to the qualifiers stage would have been quite easy for BCCI.

With those lucrative opertunistic financial prospect, DG officials & its players has right to be upset, but why would BCB give BCCI this favor by sending our champ team there?! I say untill they dont properly recognise us as a test team and invite us for a full tour we should keep take a side with England regarding this mini-ipl compitition. IMO the future of clt20 is already turning to be a failed league while ECB backing out; this should be BCCI's interest to drag BPL's name into it, not ours.

Media Release

Regarding Champions League T20 2013

Bangladesh Premier League reigning champions Dhaka Gladiators was shocked to learn that despite having the ability to compete, the team was not considered for the upcoming season of Champions League T20.

Dhaka Gladiators managing director Shihab Chowdhury was left stunned and said: “I still can’t believe that in spite of all the positive vibes, we were kept out of the CPL T20 this year and to be honest I couldn’t find and logic to that.

“ICC cannot interfere on this issue as CPLT20 is a private tournament. But we expected and were waiting for a meeting with one the organizers, BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), of the tournament. We were also said that things are on track but the fixture was released before we could even make a move. We were informed that Bangladesh Cricket Board was supposed to recommend and request BCCI. But surprisingly this was also never done."

“We were even said by the concerned that process is going and there was a very good chance for us to participate in the tournament this year but no communication was made by the concerned thus we were not considered.

“Being able to participate in the Champions League T20 would have been a pride not only for us but for the whole of Bangladesh but we saw a minimal effort made by the concerned to push us to the CPL T20. This year we tried to put up the best possible team not only in BPL but also one of the best in the world keeping in mind that we will make it into the CPL T20 this time around.

“BPL is not only a successful tournament in Bangladesh but is I believe the second favorite after India Premier League and for which I font find a possible reason why a side that which has one of the best line-up in the world will not be considered for the tournament.

“What we learnt from this experience is there is actually no outcome of putting up a good team spending huge amount of money as at the end of the day we are heading nowhere. If only being the champion is the ultimate feedback, then we are afraid to inform that from next season we will consider making a team for survival in BPL only.

“The tournament is in September and we believe that there is still time for the concerned to step up and push the Gladiators into the tournament of the champions.

Hmm, what would happen if some of our players decide to play for another team that are already participating in the league? Would deplete us alot.
