Ireland beat Kenya to win the 2005 Intercontinental Cup which is an annual 3-day competition which Scotland won when it started last year.

Scotland won the ICC Trophy which is the 1-day tournament held every four years this summer. They beat Ireland in the final.

I wasn't surprised about the win for Ireland although it was a surprise after day 1, and they did it without their best player Middlesex's Ed Joyce. The European associates are quite strong at the moment.

The format of the Intercontinental looks to be changing next year which I think will make it even more competitive. That is if the teams can cope with the schedule!

I had a feeling the Irish would come out on top before the tournament. Just because the kenyans lacked match practice and on a declining mode. However, this does not tarnish the Irish victory after the mamoth 1st day. They believed in themselves and won at the end. Both Scots and Irish are the best right now outside the test arena.

It is impressive that Ireland won the tournament just after Ed Joyce had left the team!

Ireland played a gamble. Because they were behind from Kenya in the 1st innings. But then they declared, let Kenyan batsmen bat and their bowlers all out Kenya quickly and they won the match.

I think they played positive Cricket. In a 3 day match, time is essense and thats why they declared early. That was the only way of getting a result favorable to them. If they had chose to bat and cross kenya's total the match would be a tame draw and kenya had run-rate and run per wicket advantage in the first innings. Thus (Kenya) would win the trophy.

Definately a very smart move by Ireland to declare early.... I don't think Kenya took their second innings that seriously as they thought they are gona win very easily... the reason I say that is because I see M Suji opening the batting...
