Here are few latest links:

Here is the link from NBC. I heard the news this morning in Robin Meade's at CNN.

As they are not planning to label the items, one will not be able to differentiate by looking - even there may be some difference in taste depends how subtle it would be to discourage the consumers. Another worry is what will happen to the fast food chains? Will they welcome such meat in their burgers, sandwiches, hotdogs etc.?

I think it should be Halal. If a surrogate child can have a religion and is also bound by his religious laws, then a cloned cow can be korbanied.

Shaad can explain this much better and in greater details but I can give a summary, which will clear up why I feel cloned meat is halal. Usually when people think of "cloned animal", they think the animal will come out of no where and start to taboo the practice. People need to revisit the basic laws of thermodynamics

Anyways, the idea is that since all our cells have complete DNA, they contain the code to make up a whole organism. Cloning is done when an undifferentiated cell is inserted into an EMPTY EGG cell (this is the key here, you need the egg but the egg's dna is taken out), and then it is probably electric shocked, so it can start to divide. And then the whole thing is implanted into the animal for development of the embryo.

So in MORE SIMPLER terms, you are giving an "unnatural" birth to an animal, much like a surrogate birth. That's is the ONLY difference.

Also cloning is expensive and efficiency is not that high. So, it will take some time before you get your cloned meat Now you maybe asking why the hell would you go through all that trouble if you can just get two cows to do it in the backyard... I got the same question baby ?

btw if any Hujur ever says cloned meat is haram, go upto him and tell him that you have a surrogate mother. Then ask him if that makes you any less Human/Muslim/@ssh*** trying to mess up the guy's khudba?

General question:
Is this a violation of Jacob Neilsen's 10 usability heuristics?

1. site's name is polapain.com
2. right click and you get "Thappor khabi".
I hate to try to click on any links there. Just imagining the possibilities gives me a shiver.

I think the summary Orpheus provided upstream addresses the issue quite thoroughly. While I am certainly not qualified to declare what should be considered halal or not by Islamic dictates, I personally see no reason why cloned cattle, for instance, should not be considered halal. They are, after all, as Orpheus points out, simply cattle.

I think halal-ness will be more of an issue if the flesh of transgenic animals (e.g. cows containing genes of some other animal) becomes readily available in the meat markets.

Now, to answer Orphy's question: these cloned animals generally cost about $20,000 each. So it's unlikely that you will see the meat of the cloned animals in the market. What they will primarily be used for is creating new herds. Say, for instance, that by selective breeding you have produced a bull that is simply marvelous (by whatever meat-selling criteria you choose to use). The semen of these prize bulls is always in demand, to produce offspring that are somewhat similar to the father. And if you start creating a herd with these calves (which are somewhat similar, but not identical to the prize bull), the final herd will end up being even less similar to the original prize bull. But by using say, clones of the prize bull, you can go one better, starting your herd with relatively identical calves, and ending up with one consisting of animals much more similar to the original prize bull.

Only you say that Fazil. It's more like "thanda Cold drinks" or "Tin double". That is an interesting question, I am guessing it has more to do with the acronym sound than anything else. ATM or NIC or PIN can stand for or mean other things beside your intended use. For example, suppose a girl is wearing a safety pin in her dress, and a bank teller asks "Give me your PIN". Does she take the pin off of her blouse and hand it to the teller or does she give the her identification number. It's very vague.

Same goes for ATM, how do you know we are not talking about Asif The Man. "Man that effing ATM is messed up"... is ASif messed up?

"Give me your PIN number" - telling you what the last N stand for, so you know which PIN they are asking for
"ATM machine" - again ends with machine, so it's not Asif the man but may be @ss tickling machine

I put the song up as a downloadable MP3 on my webpage for those of you who might want it. Enjoy.

Why did the Chakma insurgents adopt the name "Shanti Bahini"? I did the requisite search but could not find why the Jumm guerrillas would adopt a moniker of peace ...

So you are saying "Au-Shanti Bahini" makes more sense?

I think there was someone in that group (who made the name) who had a sense of humor, basically saying they will make sure all shanti will be gone.

If you put it in their perspective, then the naming would make lot more sense. The tribal mountain people bear the common concept of being the peaceful and quiet community anywhere in the world. Our hill-tract guys will get the credit for being that imaginative in that case.
