Default BDR, BSF trade bullets at Lalmonirhat frontier., BSF man held in Nogaon.

DHAKA, March 9 (BSS) - The border security guards of India and Bangladesh traded fire in the frontier districts of Lalmonirhat and Khagrachhari while villagers caught a BSF man with a heavy weapon from Bamonpara out post under Spahar in Naogaon districts today, reports reaching from three districts said.

In Lalmonirhat, without any provocation, Border Security Forces (BSF) of India opened fire on Singhamari border out post under Hatibandha upazila frontier at 3.10pm and started illegally erecting barbed-wire fence within 121 yards from the zero line in between international border demarcation pillars no-892 and 892/1, BDR officials said.

Border guards of BSF-6 battalion, stationed at Fulbari and equipped with heavy weapons fired indiscriminately in the frontier creating panic among the villagers who ran for safety. BDR personnel from battalion no-19 stationed there returned the fire.

The two sides continued to exchange fire till in the evning.

A flag meeting between company commander level over the issue was held two hours after the incident. Both the parties failed to take a decision over the caught soldier who is expected to be handed over to BSF after a battalion commander level meeting tonight or tomorrow, sources close to BDR said.

Witnesses said BSF fired at the frontier this morning without any provocation and started fencing in the area. BDR personnel resisted the BSF's repeated fencing attempts. BDR fired 20 shots while the aggressive BSF personnel spent unspecified number of bullets.

BDR issued red alert over 360 kilometer no mans land including Panchakumar, Katharipara and Kashibari under Ramgharh frontier while BSF also hoisted red flag in the bordering areas.

Local administration said hundreds of panicked villagers from sensitive and disputed areas have been shifted to safer places. BDR mobilised soldiers in the border areas. BDR personnel were taking their position by digging trenches in the sensitive and disputed frontier areas to face the BSF personnel.

Meanwhile, no decision could be made due to aggressive attitude of the Indian side even after holding 13 face to face meetings between BDR and BSF in last 15 days.

Not the causality though, seems to me hundreds of people are shot dead every year by BSF.
Never heard of any civilized country which behave like that in a border, unless in a war.
I always wonder, is there any possibility that our BDR also shooting at people on the other side?
Our newspaper never mention anything like that except BSF. Hard to know the truth.

Spot on!

But have you noticed that Indian media always hide this issue ? One reason might be as we are a small nation so it has no significance for them.

We should deploy "jack of all trade" RAB there. I am pretty sure by now BSF knows about RAB's crossfire.

I thought India was our friend, why they are shotting our poor BDR. Shiekh Hasina should talk to the Indian PM and ask them to stop this

BSF's presence is three times than that of BDR. They just want to use force to push bengali speaking indians people on our side. And, TATA willing to invest in BD, gov't there cannot stand that. treaty of 1973 is not followed by bilateral law or any int'l law. Inbaility to control its own problems in assam, thripura and kashmir, biggest guy in the block always blames its neigbors for all its internal problems. so much for that goodwill trip by BD FM after congress came to power.

India has no honour and is seeking to violate its own treaty agreement.

Our boys are doing a fantastic job in protecting the sovereignity of Bangladesh.

To the poster who said that India will stop when AL will come to power, what do you mean. Is AL a puppet of india and is india actively meddling in BD's affair?

If that is the case then I say AL is commiting treason. I believe the punishment for treason is death.

As for the as*hole indian who was caught with weapons. The latest news is that he has confessed to being a spy is currently being actively interrogated by intelligence personnel.

May it is BD who should build the fence to prevent indian meddling.
