3. Chris Rogers
4. Michael Clarke
5. Dave Hussey/Callum Ferguson
6. Steve Smith
7. Brad Haddin
Since Warner isn't playing in the first test then Roger will slot in as opener and Hughes would be at #3.

except neither hussey or ferguson are in the ashes squad so who do you bat at #5? that's saying if smith is at #6. choices are khawaja or wade as a pure batsman. wade has a higher test average, 2 tons to his name and that's playing as keeper as well. but khawaja has a better FC record (though again wade is a keeper batsman so he could potentially have a better FC record had he played as a pure batsman).

Australia placed too many top order batsmen in their squad. I'd like Khawaja to be given a go at #5 but that might not even happen. With the openers settled Cowan could possibly be placed at #4 with Hughes coming in at #4 and Clarke at #5.
I hope it's not the case. Australia didn't play Khawaja in this warm up game which to me signals that he isn't in Australia's Ashes plans ffor the first test. Australia should have given Ferguson a go at #5 i reckon. He is probably Australia's most versatile batsmen (kinda like Nasir Hossain) as he can switch gears anytime and adjust to the situation accordingly.

Phil Hughes will definitely be picked now. Cowan to get the sack.

the thing about cowan is that although he's always looked decent (not spectacular but decent) but he's never been a run machine. hughes was very prolific early in his career and he was very prolific in the list A's last season so he's obviously got it in him, cowan there will be a question mark until he does show that higher level of consistency.

Spot on Gowza bhai. Phil Hughes can make big runs. Everyone knows that. But the same cannot be said for Cowan.

Cowan's more of an over achiever who makes the most most of his limited ability. Hughes on the other hand is an under achiever who has not made the most of his abilities. Even then you see that both have similar records, plus Hughes is 7 years younger. So Hughes>Cowan

I heard Cowan got a bad call with his dismissal. He got out LBW but apparently there was some inside edge to it. So he might be a bit unlucky to be dropped from the first test based on this performance. Since Hughes made good runs at #5 he might be batting in that position for the first test...

Australia will be game, Hopefully Clarke can stay fit for the entire series.
I don't like the fact it's gonna be played back to back in such a short span.
England can win 5-0 and than lose 1-0 in Australia.

Investec Ashes - What a horrible tagline for a financial organisation.
Match begins in under 2 hours....

Ashton Agar set to debut. Big call by Boof Lehmann. He has had a massive 8 months.
He is a real talent but not sure if it's the right call at this moment. It does show that Lehmann isn't scared to make big decisions. Good stuff

Agar was looking alright. Has potential but was clearly nervous. Good deliveries to get both Cook and Root out. It's shaping to be a good contest. Commies are terrible though.
