ঢাকায় ক্রিদেশীয় সিরিজের দলে থাকলেও খেলার সুযোগ পাননি একটি ম্যাচেও। অবশেষে শাহরিয়ার নাফীসের অপেক্ষার অবসান হচ্ছে আজ। প্রায় দুই বছর আগে যেখানে সর্বশেষ টেস্ট খেলেছিলেন, সেই মাঠেই ভারতের বিপক্ষে প্রথম টেস্ট দিয়ে আজ আবার দেশের মাঠে নেমে হারিয়ে যাওয়া সময়টা পুষিয়ে দিতে চান এই বাঁহাতি...

অভিনন্দন। দলে ফিরে কেমন লাগছে?
শাহরিয়ার নাফীস: ধন্যবাদ। আলহামদুলিল্লাহ, ভালো লাগছে। এত দিন পর জাতীয় দলে ফিরলাম, খুব ভালো লাগছে।

শাহরিয়ার: হ্যাঁ, আমাকে অভিনন্দন জানালেন। উইশ করলেন যেন ভালো খেলি।
কখন জানলেন, সেরা একাদশে আছেন?
শাহরিয়ার: আজকেই (গতকাল), প্র্যাকটিসের শুরুতে যখন টিম মিটিং হলো, তখনই আমাকে নানো হলো আমি দলে আছি।
শোনার পর প্রথম কেমন লাগল?
শাহরিয়ার: প্রায় ১৮ মাস পর জাতীয় দলে ফিরলাম, ভালো তো লাগবেই। আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটটা অনেক মিস করেছি। তা ছাড়া আমাদের দলও এখন খুব ভালো খেলছে। তো আবার এই দলের অংশ হতে পেরে আমি খুবই খুশি।
কোচ কী বলেছেন?
শাহরিয়ার: অভিনন্দন জানালেন। বললেন যেন অতিরিক্ত কোনো চাপ না নিই। শুধু নিজের স্বাভাবিক খেলাটা খেলি।
পরিবারকে জানিয়েছেন? তাঁদের প্রতিক্রিয়া কী?
শাহরিয়ার: হ্যাঁ, জানিয়েছি। সবাই খুব খুশি। আসলে বাংলাদেশের হয়ে খেলার মতো আর তো কিছু নেই। দেশের হয়ে খেলাটা সবচেয়ে বেশি সম্মানের, সবচেয়ে বেশি গর্বের।
দলের ভেতরের পরিবেশ কেমন? আইসিএল প্রত্যাগতদের নিয়ে দলে কোনো অস্বস্তি আছে?
শাহরিয়ার: দলে কোনো সমস্যা নেই। এটা হলো সবচেয়ে ইতিবাচক দিক। আসলে এই দলের বেশির ভাগই আমরা একসঙ্গে অনেক দিন থেকে খেলছি, সেই বয়সভিত্তিক দলগুলো থেকে। সবার মধ্যে বোঝাপড়াটা তাই দারুণ। দলের পরিবেশ চমত্কার, সবাই খুবই ভালো।
 ২০০৮ সালের ফেব্রুয়ারিতে এই মাঠেই তো শেষ টেস্ট খেলেছিলেন, মনে পড়ে?
শাহরিয়ার: হ্যাঁ, সবই মনে আছে। দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকার বিপক্ষে খেলে প্রথম ইনিংসে করেছিলাম ৬৯, দ্বিতীয় ইনিংসে ৩১।
 ভালো খেলছিলেন, তারপরও হারিয়ে গেলেন...
শাহরিয়ার: সেসব আর বলতে চাই না। তবে পুরো সময়টা ছিল আমার জন্য ‘লার্নিং পিরিয়ড’। আমি নিজের খেলা নিয়ে কাজ করতে পেরেছি, কোথায় কোথায় ভুল হচ্ছে, সেটা খুঁজে বের করেছি। উন্নতির জায়গাগুলো নিয়ে কাজ করেছি। এখন ভালো খেলতে পারলেই এই কয়েক মাসের কষ্ট সার্থক হবে।
 ১৫ টেস্টে গড় ২৭, ১টি সেঞ্চুরি আর ৪টি ফিফটি। টেস্ট রেকর্ড নিয়ে কি সন্তুষ্ট?
শাহরিয়ার: টেস্টের পারফরম্যান্সে আমি মোটেও সন্তুষ্ট নই। আমার গড় মাত্র ২৭, বিশ্বমানের ব্যাটসম্যানদের সবারই গড় ৫০ এর আশপাশে। আমার লক্ষ্য ধীরে ধীরে গড়টা বাড়ানো। প্রথমে ৩০-এর ওপর নিয়ে যাওয়া, এর পর ৩৫, ক্যারিয়ার শেষে হয়তো ৪০-এর কাছাকাছি। ৪০-এর ওপর হলে তো খুবই ভালো।
 আর ক্রিকেটার শাহরিয়ার নাফীসের ভবিষ্যত্ লক্ষ্য কী?
শাহরিয়ার: যত দিন সম্ভব দেশের হয়ে খেলতে চাই। আল্লাহ যদি চায় তো নিয়মিত ভালো খেলতে চাই, দেশের ক্রিকেটে অবদান রাখতে চাই। ধীরে ধীরে নিজের খেলার অনেক উন্নতি করতে চাই। বাংলাদেশ এখন অনেক ভালো করছে। তো এটার সঙ্গে তাল মিলিয়ে আমিও এগিয়ে যেতে চাই।

Guys, please dont start bashing already.. Its his first match after a long break and the ball was a good one. Give him another innings to judge him. Right now lets just think of him as a Bangladeshi batsman forgetting ICL or his past. We have thrown out many players like this and its never good for us.. heck even Sachin Tendulkar had bad times and a bad start during his career but he did make up. Many in this forum didnt even believe that Shahadat can get his rythm back and wrote him off,, but he did come back didnt he? Nafees needs a bit time to get back into national side and today's dismissal can prove to him that he needs to work extra hard to get a permanent spot in the squad..

No. He may play good cricket but my voice won't be changed. I can't forget what SN and Dhiman told while leaving for ICL. I have no objection for the rest of the ICLers. But SN and Dhiman surely have some attitude problems.

if someone plays good, i don't care what he does what he says.....christiano ronaldo is a good soccer player..i don't care that he loves to bang atleast 2-3 girls in a week...dhoni is a solid batsman, i don't care if he dates with several women.....warwolf, you should get rid this type of attitude, i used to hate how ash speaks to the public, but as long he score good runs, i can't say i hate him.

Dating random girls or banging them is not comparable with talking trash against you country. Please don't compare an apple with air. They are not comparable.

I follow BD cricket because i love my country and support the team just because of it. If playing good is the main reason for supporting a team then I would have supported Australia or SA rather than BD team. In fact in that case, I would always support the no.1 ranked team no matter whoever it is.

we should also hate ashraful then, who used to talk bullshit when he was a captain.and the chor thappor to jalal.......but, ppl don't really hate ashraful abt this....it's the batting consistency.you ppl shouldn't like SN because of his unconsistency. Forget about what he said in the past, ppl made sometimes big mistakes in life. typical fact, but now he gets a chance to perform for the national team. take the chance, use it, otherwise, drop him!

I also gave up. Normally I don't talk about this issue. But the attitude of some fans makes me thinking that the ICLers are the best players on the earth and Also they are given the license of doing whatever they wish. First of all, I don't hate any of our players. They are playing for the country and trying their best. If someone doesn't perform well then I don't want him in the team. That certainly doesn't mean I have to hate him. I cannot hate someone for incapabilities as long as he tries. But if someone thinks that the country is not enough for them, there is enough reasons for disliking him. So is the case for SN and Dhiman.

I definitely can forgive someone if he asks for it. As far as I remember, I didn't see SN or Dhiman asking for forgiveness. So no question of forgiving comes here.

it would take a month to give u the exact reference....but it's true iclers feel guilty about joining icl...it was on some newspapers......you may ask some bc members about tht....

that what i remember that sn and dhiman said before joining icl:

sn: "amaro family ache, i think the team doesn't need me blah blah"
dhiman: " surely, i'm a better keeper than mushfique, but rafiqul says that i can't be #1, so i think it's better to join icl"

later during the cooling period sn stated that it was a big mistake for him to join...he learned a gr8 lesson frm tht..blah blah.....dhiman almost cried, he stated tht what he did was wrong, however he also stated tht ppl took his words negatively(about no pride for the country)it was something like this,"bishwash koren ami eirokom kotha boli ni, ami onno ekta kotha mean korte cheyechilam, kintu kothata onno bhabe ashche..blah blah"
