Unfortunately using a Dell laptop in Dhaka became a headache as it started to heat up and die down as kids tried to play games in the net. Next step was to use a UPS which started to help much better performance but still not quite satisfactory. The charger although states it is universally made for global connection I think the constant fluctuation and poor service of electricity is the main factor to cause such harm. Trying to replace the battery with a chinese one from a local supplier was another horrific experience.

I would always suggest use UPS whatever high performing electronics you are about to use in BD.

I actually had no problem running my Dell laptop (using a plug adapter) in Dhaka (I had recently purchased a replacement Dell power adapter while I was in the US)... it's a 4 year old Inspiron 9300. It would get really hot though (but not enough to die), especially when left without the ceiling fan or the a/c on.

I also charged my camera and my cell phone (both rated 100-240V) directly from the wall (surprisingly, our BD apt has a lot of sockets that would directly fit US flat pins, unless they had ground pin).
