Red face Tamim sets an ODI ‘record’

Tamim sets an ODI ‘record’

Quote:
MUMBAI, Aug 17: Bangladesh's 22-year-old left-handed batsman, Tamim Iqbal is yet to succeed on the recent Zimbabwe tour but he has already "scored" over a ton, according to India's two noted statisticians, Mohandas Menon and Sudhir Vaidya.

"Tamim Iqbal has played over 100 ODIs, (101 to be precise), batted in every ODI and actually got dismissed in every ODI. His record is absolutely an unique one.", the statisticians said.

"India's two former coaches, New Zealand's John Wright and South Africa's Gary Kirsten come close to them. Both have batted in all ODI's they have played, 149 and 185 respectively, but remained not out on few occasions-Wright on once and Kirsten on 19 times", they added.

Tamim's brother, Nafees Iqbal, who also played for Bangladesh, was speechless for few seconds when this "unique feat" was brought to his notice."I don't know what to say...", he said initially. "Look there are two angles-positive and negative- to look at this feat", he said later. "It feels good when my brother has batted in all ODIs. This is because, in Bangladesh, the players are changed often. Tamim has shown consistency as an opener and hence he got the chance to bat in all ODIs'.

Thankfully the ODIs, so far he has played, have not been washed away due to rain or abandoned for any other reasons.

"The negative aspect about Tamim's feat on being out in every ODI he has played is that he was unintentionally being wrongly given out in few matches. The second thing is that our team has played few matches against the stronger teams. My brother likes to play shots at every ball and that may be one of the reasons on being out in all matches", Nafees Iqbal signed off.

A little wiser I guess.

Because he was so raw after WC07, that he was turning into a hit and miss aftabisque batsman, but then he improved from there and became little more balanced in shot sellection etc. But still his hit and miss everyball comes into play when ever he gets over confident.

Anyway, congrats for his 100 ODI

I wish i could his bro nafees dumbstruck face when he heard this news. haha...poor guy
Well, being an opener of Bangladesh, it was bound to happen. The good thing is that Tamim managed to play 100 ODIs.

100 ODI but not a single not out innings. What a shame!!!
Has no patience to bat out 50 overs.

In some instances, we did not need to bat 50 overs to win a match but he also failed to finish the game.

Tamim isn't like any of those selfish or chalak players who remain not our for the sake of average.
he is extraordinary.
he also gives others the oppurtunity to bat.

One of those branded chalak player (selfish player) in world cricket is Jacque Kallis. Look at his Stat. If Tamim scores 70% as many runs as Kallis I will be happy.

Lasting 50 overs needs fitness. Our players look like they crossed the Sahara desert after they reach 70

If Tamim remained not out or batted 50 overs then there is no doubt we would win a lot of games

If bats 50 overs, he probably will score 200-250. But, he is no Sehwag. At least, not yet.

So even if he is not out for 49.5 overs he should run himself out to get hold of the guiness record. lmao

It seems even Tamim's brother is already well versed in the excuse culture

We will end up in hall of shame pretty soon (jei haare record hosse).but its difficult for an opener to bat 50 overs. And with his style its even harder....

Only an opener can bat 50 overs in an ODI game.

Why cant 2 opening batsmen play 50 overs ? Its not impossible but not plausible either.

Moreover, he does not need to bat 50 overs. He should tell others to get out within 20-25 overs (or lesser) so that he can remain NOT OUT

This aspect of Tamim was actually discussed frequently in the performance monitoring threads in the past.

It is a concerning stat as it shows the lack of importance he puts on his wicket.

He has some maturing up to do and think more big picture and team than himself.

I bet you if it had been TI instead of Mush scoring the century in the 3rd ODI, he would have jumped in the air with his fist and celebrated the century even though the job (win) was not done.

Us batting 2nd and TI remaining not out in most scenarios would be a W for BD. Its not a STAT to waive off as meaningless.
