Default Roy Dias Batting Coach

Dias likely to become Tigers’ batting coach

MUMBAI, Apr 6: Former Sri Lanka batsman Roy Dias may be Tigers’ batting coach, according to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president, AHM Mustafa Kamal. Speaking exclusively, he says, “we have approached him recently and final confirmation from him is awaited. He may be the batting consultant for the team. If he agrees, can take up his job even before the home series against Australia”.
However, that seems unlikely. “By next week or so, the picture will be clearer. I shall take up the assignment as a batting consultant and the duration of my contract will be 1 or 2 years”, Dias, when approached at his Colombo residence on Wednesday morning, confirmed the deal.
Few Sri Lankan players have served the Bangladesh team in the past. Champaka Ramanayake, the former Sri Lankan fast bowler, had been appointed the fast bowling coach of Bangladesh for two years. Bangladesh had also roped in the services of former Sri Lankan off-spinner Ruwan Kalpage as their high performance head coach to run their National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Mirpur.
Roy Dias has served as a coach for the Sri Lanka national cricket team and more recently for the Nepal national cricket team. The coaching of Dias has been instrumental in the success of the Nepali cricket team in different associate cricket tournaments.
The 58-year-old Dias is a former Sri Lankan cricketer, who played 20 Test matches as a specialist batsman, and became the first Sri Lankan to hit 1,000 Test runs. Following his retirement, Roy Dias has maintained his low profile in the game coaching Sri Lanka for a period.
“We have also plan to invite former India skipper, Saurav Ganguly to take up batting consultancy job for our team”, Kamal added. After being retired from the international cricket, Ganguly could not cement his place in the KKR team for the IV edition of the IPL, which is due to commence in India Friday. “He has some commentary commitments in hand and therefore we will ask him to make himself available at his own time”. “Being a Bengali himself, Ganguly can communicate better with the players”, Kamal added further.
The 38-year-old Ganguly’s communication skill has been appreciated by the team members when he was invited for the pep-talk in the past.

Wow, Nepal's coach? Subcontinent coach is probably a bad idea. Should have at worst, hired some coaches who had expirence coaching county/Aus domestic cricket.

Dada can be great in building a team imo. But don't think he would be interested though.

Siddons can still stay as the head coach. If he does not have to waste his time teaching batting, bowling and fielding, he can do the head job perfectly.

You kiddin me? Kirsten wouldn't have left if it's not for spending time with his family. Even approaching him would be ridiculous. Why would he be interested in coaching BD over India or even his motherland?

any news on Julian Fountain's Contract? We shouldn't neglect or forget his contributions too towards Improving our national team. Hopefully he gets a due pay raise and a contract extension.

To me Yes its a sign of departure of Siddons. So i can see Julian been promoted as head coach with Roy Dias.Probably this is why BCB wanted to keep Pont.So they will search a bowling coach now.

because of his proactive approach with the team. He has done a great job so far with our fielding, I must admit.

If you read his posts, he knows what he is talking about. and he has a plan for the team. for the head coach position, we need someone who is proactive, someone who knows how to talk to players, someone who has good communication with players. someone who has an effective plan and knows how to execute it. more importantly a desire to win, a desire to be better than before.

Hey this guy has huge following in Nepal. His coaching of Nepali team really helped them a lot specially the U-19 Team. In one World 2008 or 6 Nepal U-19 team defeated BD, Pak, NZ. They have been known to defeat other Test teams too and usually top the Plate group.

THe Nepal Senior team also reached the finals of ACC tournament. And all he started was from scratch. But he is known as a man of processes and slow pace, believing in getting the basics right. He cannot give a pep talk or motivating one

Seems like he was a good batsman for Srilanka.

Dias may not be a bad option for the batting dept. Julien for head coach? I don't know. Are we getting too many coaches?

Probably the best idea. This man proved himself as the coach of the high performance unit. We need this type of person as our head coach. People who r advocating for fountain as the head coach should stop dreaming. Well.....we r not playing baseball....so lets be realistic. I appreciate his effort as the fielding coach though. If BCB can avail Ganguly as the batting coach for long term then he will be probably the best option as a batting coach/consultant.

I heard he's a good coach and he doesn't use technical (computer and digital) much in his coaching. BD spent a lot looking at the screen and different analysis with different foreign coaches but it seems that the Board thinks it's the good old "hate dhore shikhano" way that would keep the BD batsmen develop.

Exactly. That's what it all comes down to. His posts. We don't know jack about him and we just arrive to conclusions from his posts. How do you know if Siddons is proactive or not?

I like Julien, but just being biased because he's posting here and siddons is not is unfair.
