List of historical people who travelled to Bangladesh?
Any help on references would be appreciated. I am really curious about Marco Polo, The Buddha, Gandhi, Alexander....

Great thread.
Well, Gandhi did come to Noakhali in 1946 to set up one of his ashrams.
I don't know about Polo, Buddha and Alexander, but would love to find out.
Robert Clive came to Meherpur in 1757, who arguably changed the face of the sub continent forever.
Keep it 100,
Roey

Huh? When did Obama visit BD, from what I know it only went as far as a 'desire to'.

I didn't actually. But it's hard to find a general list though.

Did Megasthenes actually visit 'Gangaridai' or did he just report on it from Pataliputra?
Megasthenes was a Greek traveler from the Hellenic period (300+ BC) and was also Selecus I's ambassador to Chandragupta Maurya's court.

Oh, I have got another one for you.
The greatest himself, Muhammad Ali!
Went on a world tour after his famous rumble in the jungle in 1974, and met with Bongobondhu in Dhaka.

And was given honorary Bangladeshi citizenship.
He also came later in 1979.

Then you have the seventh century Chinese Buddhist pilgrim Hiuen-Tsang who has written much India and Bengal. He wrote a fairly long account of the countries of Central and South Asia, Xiyu Ji (Hsi-yu Chi). He is reputed to have visited Pundranagar - the oldest urban citizen in what is now Bangladesh dating back to 4-5th century BC.
Bonus point question: Where is Pundranagar today?
