Brazil legend Socrates has died after suffering an intestinal infection that developed into septic shock. He was 57.

May he rest in piece.

I remember I was all gaga over the 1982 Brazil WC team - they were the favorites with Socrates at the helm. He was such a great passer and playmaker. Amazing.

That team with greats like Oscar, Zico, Falcao, Junior and so many others was amazing. No other team has since come to match that in artistry and elegance.

There is no room for argument, though I love European speedy counter attacking football. Thanks for this wonderful video.

RIP.

Looking at the video, I can see the difference between Argentina and Brazil (don't want to turn this thread into a Brazil vs Argentina though).

I saw a similar video of Argentina, and most of them were individual heroics. Here, its all about team play.

RIP

I remember part of my dad's inspiration was his era mate Zico and wanted to name me such;instead he opted for the current one. So in a distant way Brazil is in my blood!

Doctor was the main man. That is why he was the captain of that 82 team. We (me and friends who watched games live and recorded) use to count touches before opponents could touch. Most of the time it went over 20s. That was the real Samba. RIP.

Rossi was the most disliked football player for me till he passed Rummenigge and lifted the cup.
