Default Asking for Semi Livescore on BC

BC should take an approach for Semi Livescore service of National team, A team, U 19 team practice matches ( in BD ), as well as NCL and other domestic big matches if possible. Obviously most of these matches are not getting live coverage by anyone ( cricinfo, tigercricket ), but there must be number of professional reporters from different BD media visiting the venue. We can approach few of them for each match ( in advance ) who has plan to visit the venue for his own regular job, and ask him to SMS the score update in a fixed format every 15 minutes or so, assuming every one of them carry mobile phone these days. Certainly we should offer a reasonable payment for that matter, for example 500 tk / match?

Simple process for Semi Livescore ( just an idea )

1. Save / overwrite that simple fixed format SMS text message in BC server.
2. Run a demon process ( shell, batch PG etc. ) which will read and check ( numeric, alphabet, code etc. ) the message. If the format and message contents is correct then create / overwrite a fixed format output file.
3. Run another demon process which will read this output file, and will refresh front-page score in a certain interval. Even better if this demon can 'auto post' in match thread! ( is it too difficult to design an auto post in match thread? )

This is a rough idea of Semi Livescore on BC, but those who has knowledge on BC server and its design, operation, system may find more convenient idea, design and implementation for sure. Technically it seems possible, but main difficulty seems to find those reporters, and perhaps one Dhaka base coordinator. Financially it may cost us few hundred dollars a year if we are selective on matches for a start. Our generous BC members will never hesitate to donate every year if needed.

If we can provide this Semi Livescore service on BC, this will significantly differentiate our value with other cricket site.

I think someone coined the idea of live score by SMS when Tehsin bhai went to Trini for WC '07. But somehow no one got to it.

I completely agree with the idea. We should have a mechanism set up.

As far as live score goes, it not the technicality of it; rather we just don't have the manpower to do this. If members who are watching a live match wants to do it, then that would be great. But I am not sure how many of our members actually get to watch live matches on consistent basis.

Anyway, we will keep this in mind.

The idea of getting a BD media person onboard is the key. A mere 500 TK would not pay his/her cappuccino. Therefore, a better prize such as recognizing his/her work/contribution can be an incentive. He/she/they will get world famous.

There will be no commentary from cricinfo/cricbuzz in upcoming ODIs and Test from NZ? Hard to believe that.

We are already working toward that goal. It will take time, but inshallah it will happen.

How do we know CI won't be giving ball-by-ball on the NZ series? I don't see anything mentioned on their site.

Thanks everyone for your comment, nice to see BC is working on hiring a BD media person.

There are two things on my mind ...

1. We need to develop a set up ( system, resource ) for livescore ( to some extent ) on BC.
2. Cover those matches that are not getting live coverage in any other cricket site.

I am NOT asking for livesocre of those matches that has live coverage from CI or any other media, rather ...

For example SL U19 team is playing against BD U19 in our home without any live coverage in any other cricket site. BD U19 tour in Pakistan few days ago didn't get live coverage, coming SA U19 tour to Bangladesh could be same too. Same goes with A team matches played in home or away, though sometime CI, Tigercricket update the score but not that frequent as we aspect. Even sometime our National team's practice match doesn't get live coverage in CI for whatever reason! But certainly there must be some BD media people touring with the team. If we find and can manage a way to get livescore from those people ... that will make the difference. NCL and other domestic matches could be seen from same perspective, i. e. some media people must be turing with different team in different venue.

Then again its not easy to get those people involved, managed with satisfactory terms and conditions for each match played in different venue. Perhaps a BD media person ( based in Dhaka ) hired by BC, may work as coordinator to gather, manage livescore through those reporters touring with the team.

Anyway, looking forward to hardworking BC development group on this regard ( Livescore service on BC ).
