Had a very eventful evening yesterday.
First, my car got into an accident in Bishsho Road, Baridhara, right after the US Embassy Traffic Signal point at around 6.45pm.
Reckless jaywalkers, as they are in abundance here in Dhaka, one of them managed to run right into my car as it started to accelerate right after the green signal. The guy who was standing on the road divider, seeing my car approaching towards him tried to outdo my horsepower with his legpower but only could manage to collide with my windshield and fall abruptly on the road.
Then the usual, people rushed in, some to help the guy, some to circle our car, noise and kechal on the road. Luckily the guy didnt suffer any serious injury and actually helped us to pacify the mob by admitting that it was his fault and he should have but didnt wait for the cars to pass by before he could cross the road. He was with a friend (who also happen to jaywalk just before him but safely) also said it wasn't my car's fault.
The accident victim was a fish seller and was a poor but honest guy. He could have easily agitated the mob further and created much bigger fuss and problem for us to get extra money but he didnt. We needed to get out of the mob as quick as we can, so took the guy and his friend, another guy and had to take them to nearest hospital at Lab Aid in Gulshan 2. Couple of x rays was done and he was relatively ok. By the time I could finish with that issue and release my driver from his relatives and other people who came to hospital, it was almost 11.
By that time, another big news. The Mouchak and Anarkoli Market, which is just opposite to my house was on fire last night ! By the time I came home, the fire brigade got the fire under control and left. Approx an hour later, again fire started from second floor of Anarkoli Market and we could literally see the fire from our balcony. Tensed, very tensed moment and we could hear residents of the house on our opposite which is adjacent to the market started screaming and shouting seeing the fire so close to them. Barely recovering from the first incident and without any decent amount of food since lunch, I was back on the streets again, but this time with a prospect of a greater danger.
Good thing it was late as night, roads were empty and fire brigade could come within few minutes.
All the houses on the road including ours, had to open our gates for the fire trucks to take water from our water tank underneath. Within a moment, few thousand of people rushed in, esp those who have shops in the market. It was very chaotic on the street with the whole neighborhood passing a tensed time. Common sense prevailed as no one blocked any roads and everyone was in/around the market area and fire trucks could easily line up the narrow lanes and get necessary water from the houses and get their work done.
By the time it all ended and fire trucks left and people cleared the roads and we could finally all relax at home, it was almost 1.30 in the morning.
From 6.45pm to 1.30am, two back to back incidents, luckily by the Grace of Allah, I was alright but it was pretty energy sapping. A night to remember and to be thankful to Allah for all his Mercy and Blessing.

wow, quite an eventful evening, May Allah make it easy for you, your family and the people of Bangladesh for these trials...ALhamdulillah that you and your family are safe and sound.
I hope there was not much damage done to the injured person and the homes which caught under fire, a very close relative of mine had her house caught fire too a few years ago so i know what it feels like...
