can shakib al hasan take over 500 ODI wickets?
can shakib get 500 ODI wickets?
murali played from 1993-2010 in ODI matches and he took 515 wickets. he played approximately 18 years of ODI cricket.
shakib debuted on 2006 at the age of 19. he should be able to play ODI cricket for 18 years and break murali's record possibly.
shakib has 109 ODI wickets currently.

The problem with the situation is that both test and odi is dying. I highly doubt he can accomplish that but I wish he could.

I doubt, as Bangladesh batsmen dint give Mohammad Rafiq the chance he deserved to take more wickets.moreover as an allrounder he may not be able to do so.lets wait & see !

I think if he can have a healthy career and play another 10 years, he'll get there, if ODI's still exist. 500 Test wickets should be easy for Shakib.

They wont play as many ODI's in the future as much they have played in the 90's and 00's...
Very very unlikely

2010- 20 ODIs so far[upto maximum 28 ODI possible]
2009- 19 ODIs
2008-19 ODIs
according to past records Shakib will play 20~ odi games each year. Given Shakib's current age and the fact that he is a spinner, he would play for another 14 years. Thats 14X20= 280 games. And if we consider Shakib after he became the bowler he is now[say, from 2008], he takes 74 wickets in 57 games or in other words 1.298 wickets per game.
Hence given he would play another 280-300 ODIs in his career, he should get another 364-390 wickets. Add to that the 109 he currently has. 500 is a very real possibility.
But then again, can't ignore that he will invariably lose a year or two due to injuries and will have some bad times as well. But I still believe he should be able to reach 500 ODI wickets by the end of his career

depends on if they play enough games...wickets in ODIs will come.
i'll be more impressed if Sakib can take 300 test wickets...which he should be able to get as he's on 75 now.

let's focus on Bangladesh surviving keeping their Test, ODI and maan ijjot status first .
and then Shakib can take wickets in his sleep

To me reaching a benchmark like 500 wickets is more of a personal achievement, but even if he does not reach that but makes some memorable performances with ball and bat to earn BD series wins or competitive tourneys, that will be a better achievement with the enchantment of the mass supporters.

Well, I still think it is possible.
Win the WC 2011 cup and the English and Co. would line up ...
