Bangladesh in Chess Olympiad 2006 in Turin
Bangladesh is participating in the Chess Olympiad 2006 in Turin and completed 10 rounds of games. In Men's Team, 6 players with one GM and in Women's Team 4 players are participating. After 10th round Bangladesh Men's Team secured 61st ranking and Bangladesh Women's Team secured 52nd ranking so far. Here are the participants and their results:

Among all the players of the BD Men’s Team, IM Reefat bin-Sattar is the most successful player with 6.5 points from 10 games having only one defeat and five wins. He has improved his rating by 7.4 points.

That's a good news. Rifat needs rating above 2500 to be awarded GM title. He has already completed all the norm's required.

Yes, Reefat is supposed to earn the honour as the Country's third GM.
Although Bangladesh could play better than the result shows, but still it is a pleasure to see that BD ranking is higher than countries playing with four Grand Masters (Latvia), or countries like Belgium, New Zealand, Luxemburg and many more, whose GMs are with higher rating than that of our GM.

those individual points don't look all that great. our players are surely capable of doing a lot better - like they did so many times before.

After 12 rounds Bangladesh Men's Team secured the 63rd place among 150 countries
After similar (12)rounds Bd Women's Team have secured 56th place among 108 countries.

After the final round Bangladesh Men Team have secured the 60th position and the Women Team secured the 68th position.
In the last Chess Olympiad 2004 in Calvia our Men Team secured 41st place among 129 countries and Women Team secured 69th place among 87 countries.
Apparently our progress is falling down.
