Default Raising money for charity

My daughter Rukaiya is trying to raise some money for Save The Children during her summer vacation. She is only 7 years old and this is completely her own initiative.

She has drawn a number of pictures using crayon and pencil on A4 hard papers and plans to sell them to raise money. I have put 4 of them up for sale on eBay. You can have a look here -

Didn't notice it before. This is the first time I am trying to sell something on eBay. Let me update the listing.

Thanks Zunaid bhai.

miraz bhai, anyway to donate without bidding. i think collective small amount is better than 1 big amount for all 4 drawing.... can send her art to highest 4 donors if that happens. she can thank the rest here lol.

You are very well come to contribute to the noble cause.

Let the bidding war begin. I have thrown in the gauntlet.

You don't have to. I can send you the pictures of the drawings in e-mail to select. Once selected, I can post it to you if you can agree a price with her.

It's been an charity auction year for me this year. Two months ago, at my daugher's HS service club acution, we ended up coming hope with three rugs. One Herat, one Tabriz, and one Azerbaizani. Hand knotted. Just simply lovely. Last night we were at the PTA auction - after the last charity fund raiser couldn't even afford to raise a paddle. There was this lovely Kashan rug from the 50s. Hand knotted with the master weaver's signature. Over 500 knots per square inch. Did I buy it? Heh. That was 'valued' at 20K and was won at 10K. I came home with a miniature model loom for a 100 bucks. If I can't win the, I'll just weave them myself.

Ok, back at you.

I don't donate to charity cuz i dont believe in it. But my wife does however to the point where she calculates Islamic donations based on wealth every year. Good thing I don't have much wealth...lol

You set automatic bid.. don't like that. not sure what point i would be outbidding you..

Miraz bhai, you should open up a Justgiving page for your daughter! It's a really easy way of donating money - without having to bid on her work in Ebay. I'm sure there are many members who are willing to chip in 5 or 10 dollars/pounds but don't want to go into the Ebay auctioning process.

P.S. Great initiative by your daughter! Congratulations

Navo - there is a teachable lesson when one's effort is given value as opposed to just collecting donations.

Orphy, I quite like your eBay ID. My daughter was very curious to find out the ID/name of the second bidder, not sure how long I can hide it from her.

Navo, thanks for your idea. Justgiving is definitely a very good way to raise money, but in this instance I agree with Zunaid bhai. This eBay auctioning of her artwork will probably create a lifelong impression on her mind. I am sure this will make her more confident about her painting and motivate her to do more in years to come.

Let the bidding war continue...

Thanks everyone for your encouragement. She is now drawing a personalised thanks card for the winning bidder.

Hmm. IN the old days you could see the ID of the bidder you are bidding against. But, Miraz - beware. He has NO +ve comments. I have and my ID goes back to 2001. Perhaps you should disqualify him.

i agree with navo. i dont think lessons. are lost....you can have single art...buy now option....or buy with whatever type of thing...... it would teach her effective strategies... wrren buffet was strategying at age 6.

either way all of rest of bc are weak...i expected bc to give a liitle challenge here....

Boss and Miraz bhai are the ones who have experience raising daughters - so I trust their judgment! I just thought that if raising money is the sole aim, then it would be more convenient to do it through Justgiving.
