BCB is relocating floodlights from Rajshahi Divisional Stadium to SBNS
Relocation of floodlights from Rajshahi Divisional Stadium to SBNS
The Tri-Nation Cricket Series to be hosted by Bangladesh in June has raised massive interest both at home and abroad. The day-night competition, which will feature Sub-continental cricket powers India, Pakistan alongside Bangladesh is one of the most exciting events in the international cricket calendar this season.
In view of the timing of the tournament the BCB feels that holding day-night matches would provide relief and comfort to the spectators and players from the excessive summer heat. Both Indian and Pakistani cricket boards have also requested day-night matches from the same consideration. Day-night games are also vital commercially as that will ensure increased revenue from TV viewership.
As the time between now and the Tri-Series is not sufficient for importing and installing floodlights at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, the BCB in national interest has decided to relocate the lights from Rajshahi Divisional Stadium to Dhaka. The Board wants to state this clearly that this a purely temporary measure and the lights will be relocated and reinstalled at the Rajshahi Divisional Stadium after the Tri-Nation Series.
The SBNS in any case will have new floodlights installed ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
The BCB is acknowledges Rajshahi's role as a traditional cricketing centre and is highly appreciative of Rajshahi's contribution in providing the bulk of quality cricketers for national and other representative sides.

Lol...pura khamba uthay niye ashtese. So in the case of cleaning Dhaka, we can one day very well see the news:
"Bangladesh Government approved the proposal for moving clumsy parts of Dhaka city to the nearby empty spots. This move will ensure wider streets in Dhaka, and less traffic congestion. Surprisingly, the gov't expects this move to take about 7 to 8 days. They are hoping that the gov't will approve 7-8 days vacation throughout the city due to this move".

The question is why are they holding day-night matches when people of Bangladesh are already suffering badly from power crisis ??? Those flood lights are monstrous, they are going to make the load shedding situation in the country much worse. Looks like the caretaker government does not give sh!t about suffering of general mass.

What's the point? Most people won't get to see the game anyways because of the load-shedding.

The loadshedding is so bad nowadays, it doesn't matter. We've got used to living with 5-6 hours of loadshedding per day in Dhaka, so another half hour or one won't make much difference anyway
Maybe some some people are trying to make some quick cash with this relocation business

BCB needs 6 months to write tender specification, then another 6 month to actually have the tender, then another 6 months to have the delivery of the floodlights, then another few months to install. So lets say about 2 years if they want to buy floodlights and install them. So it is better to relocate floodlights from Rajshahi. Just do it with whatever they have. Then it will take then another 12 months to reinstall back to Rajshahi again. It's called BCB management with no plan or vision.

yeah and why are they playing in June. It's the worst time to play in BD. Right in the middle of hot humid and rainy weather. WTF!
I think BCB should buy some solar pannels to light up the stadiums at night. In that way half the city won't be in the dark during the games. I know the technology is there in BD and some houses in Dhaka already use solar energy.

If they directly fix flood light in SBNS, that's one job. That is there.
Meanwhile, 4 times assembling and disassembling jobs between Raj-SBNS, will make fortune for some one. That's how the management works in BD.
They are so efficient you see, they can make jobs out of no where, still show the honesty of purpose. It's not BCB, Shomogro Bangladesh.

Rajshahi protests floodlights shift
Staff Correspondent, Rajshahi
News of the Rajshahi Divisional Stadium floodlights being taken away to Dhaka sparked sharp reaction among sport lovers here who condemned the incident and announced protest movement.
The protesters claimed that the authorities are avoiding Rajshahi in holding international cricket matches on plea of residential problems. But the divisional headquarters fulfilled all necessary requirements including quality grounds for holding the same.
However, employees sent by National Cricket Council started taking off floodlights from Rajshahi Divisional Stadium Thursday morning.
The stadium sources said it will take three days to take off the lights as 400 bulbs will be sent to Dhaka's Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium for holding the tri-nation series in June involving India, Pakistan and the hosts.
Rajshahi Test Venue Movement Council (RTVMC) called for a human chain programme on Saturday demanding cancellation of the decision of shifting Rajshahi floodlights.
"We have demanded to make Rajshahi a Test venue for long and the authorities always turned a blind eye to our demand. Now they are taking away floodlights to downsize the quality of our stadium. Such move cannot be tolerated,” said RTVMC convenor Liaqat Ali.“If Rajshahi is not made a Test venue for residential problems, how does the Mirpur stadium qualified for international matches without floodlights?” he asked.
Rajshahi Rakkha Shangram Parisad convenor Zamat Khan said that they will go for tough movements if the steps were not cancelled immediately.
Rezaun Nabi, acting Rajshahi mayor, and all ward commissioners in a joint statement expressed deep concern at the shifting of the lights.
Rajshahi District Sports Association general secretary Imtiaj Ahmed Shamsul Huda said his association requested NCC to reconsider their decision.
Many local clubs also issued statements protesting the matter as well as demanding immediate cancellation of the decision.

We have all kinds of politics in Bangladesh, now it's a floodlight politics- What do you expect this BCB management to govern Bangladesh cricket to make it a world class team? They make rules but they don't include themselves in the rules. The outcome is zero.
