Allhamdullilah I am from the same great religion as you.
I have to research on how religious the person is to choose items 1-3. But its a great input. My brother in law is getting married and I need to get him something as well. He on the other hand is into religious items. This was useful as well.

not all religious guys like an alarm clock with 5x azan. thats a crappy gift...
i like meaningful gift, can be cheap or free, but meaningful....
this guy i invited for my wedding, instead of coming, sends me a 100 check... i never cashed it and ripped it apart.... b! if i invite u, you better make it no matter what...thats what matters... how does sending me 100 bucks without a hand written card and a genuine apology, and a true reasin for not being there make up for it, i dnt know....
so in a sense ur mom is right, u going to bd just for the wedding is the best gift....truth is no body cares about anything else...they just want their close family and friends in one of the most important day of their life... to support them and give them a feeling that no matter what happens there will always be someone there.....

How about giving him a good number of fruit plants like mango, jackfruit, guava, banana, lychee etc. Surely, he will remember your gift as long as those plants give fruits. Or, you can gift him some flower plants too. Our planet earth needs plantation. This will surely help our environment and also help to remind him of your invaluable gift. Or, if you want to spend little more then you can give him some ikebana, bonsai for home decoration
Surely, those will be meaningful gift, may be cheap or free, but meaningful....

You are suppose to go to Hajj only when you can afford it for yourself.
I would just keep it simple and buy a nice watch. You don't have to go out and by D&G or Armani, you can buy a nice watch for decent price.

As the thread wasnt leading to any further fruitful discussion I thought of giving a stale answer.
And I am sure those with a bit of common sense surely would have spotted this!
As the wedding itself is another year away, I have lots of time to make my decision. However some of the more mature comments have been quite valuable.
@Jadukor, the person I quoted from was an epic kipta. Not once in our 4 years at Uni have I seen him ever offer a cup of tea or cig to anyone else. He wasnt a begger as his father worked as a contractor and used to make alot money on the side (if you know what I mean) . I do not joke when I say my driver used to be more smartly dressed than him. However he was very intelligent.
After passing from Uni he has a high post at a bank and has since then totally changed his appearance. But not sure if he has changed his spending habits.

As I opened the thread and asking for ideas, I think I am in a better position to use the comment "stop wasting our time" .
As you have given me a tip, let me give you one....try to be forward thinking in life and plan ahead as you will be better prepared for the future.

I'll be a bit serious now ....
Gifts for younger sister's husband
You don't need to give him ANY gift whatsoever. You have given him the best gift possible, your sister. What more can/should he want ?
