I was born at Dhaka when the heavy fighting was ongoing in and around the city. Even when my parents were on their way to Holy Family Hospital, there was a war-craft flying low and looking for enemies. Have the air pilot been too suspicious, there could be a different history for me and my family.

I cant even imagine what tension your parents would have gone through during that period, especially with a new born.

But Allhamdullilah you guys made it.
Thank you Bro!
Yes, it leaves a quite a few story to tell my kids and their kids one day. Because my mom's pregnancy they decided to stay in Dhaka while everyone else went to Madaripur, nanabari. My father was a teacher in Residential Model and they used to live in there in teachers' residence. Due to lot of tension in and around Geneva Camp area they left and started staying in Azimpur. The whole building was empty and my parents were hiding on the third floor keeping everything dark and quiet, collapsible gate always locked. Very different experience for them.

My father and his younger brothers were taken from their home despite my Grandfather offering himself. They were lucky that they were only beaten up as it was towards the end of the war. Although my Grandfather 's father who was a retired Army official was killed.
My father in law was a student at the time of war. His mother had asked him to come home as she sensed something which turned out to be a miracle. All of his friends at his hostel were killed by the Pakistani army who were then ordered to kill all University students of Dhaka University.

My grand-father might have known about it as he was in Police Force. He knew many people personally.

Please share your family stories. I feel the stories posters are sharing are more genuine and personal!
It will also show people who are not fully aware of Bangladesh’s hard fought liberation.
Adam bhaiya,
This is a extremely important clip of the Dhaka university massacre/shoughtering of the students by Pakistan Army on the very specific day of March 26th, 1971. This is the ground of Jagannath Hall, a dormitory of DU. When the gun shots went off and the body of the lined up executed students falling on the ground, watch the cows on the filed run...due to the popping sound of the guns!
This film was recorded by a engineering professor of the University of Engineering and Technology (today known as BUET)from his faculty apartment rooftop or veranda. He had to hide the tape during the 9 months of the war, until the Pakistan Army surrender.
A better, clearer and better sound video!

Our great film maker artist the late martyr Zahir Raihan (RIP). He is one of pride and joy, he was a legend of to be Bangladesh.
Zahir Raihan was taken from his house on the night of 25th March, I believe and slaughtered among others at the infamous Rayer Bazaar Boddhobhumi (sloughter (humans) fieid) in DHaka...His family never found him as there were almost a thousands of rotting corpse of murdered Bengalis at the field!
Clip from Shahid Zahir Raihan's last and unfinished film 'Let There be Light'. It was never finished because Raihan was murdered by Pakistan Army's collaborators tthe Al-Badr and Al-Shams brigades aka Razakaars. The film did not have sound added at that time.
This is from the collection of Mir Shamsul Alam Baboo bhaiya
