To beat Afghanistan all you gotta do is show them who's boss. Any time things go against them they lose all semblance of discipline and under pressure they fold like a pack of cards.

Sl = Way overrated IMO. When Sanga and Mahela leave they are a very weak side IMO.

Scotland = Should beat them but funnily enough they always play well in NZ. Dont underestimate their batting strength

NZ/Aus = Forget about beating them

England = There for the taking. If you have the desire and perform well you should definitely run them close.

Top 4 place is not out of question

Mash is the cap, thus, hopping for a spirited performance from the tigers.
Hope, RBX saga will be solved before Jan 05, '15 and team spirit would be on the high...hopping for a fantastic WC this time.

Not to be pessimistic but our team is going to struggle even against weaker teams. The batsman dont know how to take singles and have not been playing regularly on bouncy pitches.

Against NZ we have a good thing going.
W W W W W W W.

That is the last 7 times we met.

I know it was in our back yard but we have Shakib. He kinda loves NZ. So does Tamim.

Last time we played @ Hamilton we didn't lose by an innings. Actually we did pretty good scored 408 runs in the first innings. Second innings it was 282. That was in 2010. We will see.

Pool A - Afghanistan v Bangladesh Manuka Oval, Canberra

300 par score. Really!! Only 3 ODI matches have been played in last 20 years. I hope BD wins the toss and set the tone. Anamul should have a field day.

D/N game may be a concern.

Pool A - Australia v Bangladesh Brisbane Cricket Ground,oolloongabba, Brisbane LIVE D/N

Very confusing pitch. On some of the games 250-300 looks good. Spinners can have success.

However, in one game (2013), Australia was bundled out by SRI LANKA for 74 in 26.4 overs. Did I say 74? Malinga, Kula and Eranga had a field day. And then lost 6 wickets to score that many runs; it was Starc and Co. So in 46 overs, 16 wickets fell. All 16 wickets were taken by FAST FAST bowlers. A total minefield. Hopefully ICC wouldn't create a pitch like that. Then again we will be playing against Australia. Who knows what they will do.

This is also D/N game.

Pool A - Bangladesh v Sri Lanka Melbourne Cricket Ground LIVE D/N

One of the largest stadiums. Holds close to 100,000. 275+ should be good. Highest ever run was 344. SL is one of the favorites in my opinion, even at these conditions. Some people play for themselves. These lions are playing for their 2 heroes (Sangga and Jaya). Definitely they would be inspired. Come on Shakib!!! Give them a good parting present. Top 3 best bowling performances in this ground were all foreigners. Mark Waugh (lol) got in to top 5. Although S Warne is the highest wicket taker in this ground but he is the only spinner in the top 15.

3rd D/N game in a row.

Make history Shakib.

Just like BD, lol. AFG are BD lite...a BD in development, replete with arrogant fans who jump at singular victories. Also like BD, lots of potential for an exciting team. BD lite in every sense of the word.

Mr Shade is bout to blow up this thread with ad nauseum youtube clips of Murali bowling pace at age 12 against Ireland U-17s from 1984 where Murali bowls 10-8-5-9 in a 50 over match. IRE U-17 all out for 22 as SL U-13s win by 10 wickets with 296 balls remaining.

They'll need more than 11 Mel Gibsons.

Agreed.

Certainly. 50-50 chance although I'd wager betting odds at 10:1 for us making the QFs.

I really want to see Ireland beat ZIM (probably favored to happen) and topple one of India and Pakistan too. IRE going to QF over IND or PAK would just be too freakin good.

Our objective should be win atleast SIX matches in the WC2015 and we should plan as well as prepare our players to do so.

If we prepare ourselves to win three matches then we would probably win a match or two, but if we prepare ourselves to win six matches then we would probably win three/four matches.

We often ignore the mental aspect of the game. If you're not brave enough to dream big, then you'll be found out to be not good enough.

Well said. That's what sets apart boys from the men. The heart.

We have already seen from the Aus - Ind Test series that the pitches are certainly not minefields. Batsmen with decent technique, footwork and temperament can prosper. Murali, Virat and Rahane are good examples. Also, World Cup being an ICC event we should expect even more batting friendly pitches. From BD perspective, Tamim and Shakib always enjoyed ball coming on the bat nicely. The Vairas are also very good at playing pace. Sabbir -inshaallah- will do very well if eschews the pulls and hooks initially. I think our batting will depend on Tamim, Mushy, Riyad, Shakib and Sabbir. My main worries are Anamul and Nasir at this stage.

Yes thats right... I always buy fruit using the same logic in case a few turn out to be not so good.
The question still stands though, how many wins to qualify?

Let's say that happens then we'd make it through if England lose all their matches against the G8 and just beat Afghanistan and Scotland. If England win against those 2 teams and then a G8 then it comes down to NRR.

As for our chances, it's very hard to tell since we hardly played in Australia. Given our ranking, the teams that will most likely advance to the next round will Australia, NZ, SL and England from our group.

That said, besides Australia, we should be able to run the other sides close. Our mental strength will be crucial if we want to advance to the next round. The last WC we did accomplish our goal of winning against 1 G8 and taking care of Ireland and Netherlands but the losses against WI and SA ended up sealing our fate. It's important this time that we make sure not get our NRR down too much. That's really our chance in advancing.

Terrible schedule. Not in the sense of difficulty level, but just the match-ups. Even as BD fan I'm not looking forward to any of these games. Only possible games I might sit through is NZ and possibly AUS. **** SL, ENG. Don't give to rats crack about AFG or Scott.

Come to think of it we really don't have any good rivalry besides Zim. Against IND/PAK, it's too one-sided to be considered a rivalry.
