Default Is this a real nickname?

The daily star were talking about Mushfiqur and Anisur and wrote this
Quote:
Mushfiq and Anis put on a decisive 62-run partnership for the unbeaten seventh wicket as Victoria reached 174 for six before Mohammedan captain Minhazul Abedin decided to throw in the towel with six balls remaining

Yes, James your right. Mushfiq and Anis is the first name. The suffix UL or UR comes from Arabic origins of these words which creates an Arabic phrase by combining first and last names.

Monjur - UL - Islam, means his first name is Monjur.

Amin - UL - Islam, means his first name is Amin

Habib - UL - Bashar means his first name is Habib.

Naim - UR - Rahman means first name is Naim.

Inzamam - UL - Haq, first name is Inzamam etc.....

In Bangladesh (or for that matter in the sub-continent) this is not a problem because people are familier with naming conventions. But for everyone else this is very confusing.

They should just keep their first name and remove the conjuction letters all together. Those conjunction letters doesn't have any meaning if you aren't saying the last name. Its used to join two words to form a phrase.

Nasif

PS. 4 more days..................

Habibul_fan, I think you need to know more about Muslim naming conventions. Mushfiq and Anis are not nicknames, they are their real first names. See

Mushfiq - ur - Rehman. His first name is Mushfiq.

UL and UR are a type of middle name, although they are used as a suffix to the first name.

Habib - ul - Bashar is known more as Habibul than Habib whereas Inzamam - ul - Haq is known more as Inzamam than Inzamamul. I think this should clear it.
