Default Back to the old days!! 70s, 80s and 90s

When we followed cricket we had to piggy back on another team or support certain players of a foreign country. Obviously sub-continent teams got most support. Then came black/colored vs white so WI got the Love. The worse offenders were England because of their "kainthami" by the umpires at their soil.

Which ever you choose to do in this Champions Trophy tournament... This is how we use to follow cricket. Have a taste of it - if you want to follow this dead tournament.

Amla, Gayle, and wishing SL team the best.

I'll be rooting for WI. They got it done during the T20 WC, why not again.

The thread came with a beat of surprise .

My team is as always West Indies. Now, with Gayle, Ben, Rampaul, Pollard, Marlon, Bravo-s they are actually well-balanced. Only Sammy has to go and Rasel should not return - better to get a good keeper than Jacobs.

I liked the 50s when the Beatles were huge. Drugs, alcohol, parties, short skirts. Those were the real times.

I never picked my team based on geographical proximity/skin color.

Ditto. I seem to pick them because of attitude and swagger. So guess who I would root for AFTER Bangladesh. Do note, I used swagger and not bluster.

Haven't followed much of the pre-Bangladesh era. Was too young. Out of the 2-3 years that I did, Saqlain Mushtaq, Saeed Anwar, Lance Klusener and Brian Lara became my favourites.
Don't fancy supporting any team other than Bangladesh anymore. Will be happy if South Africa goes on to win the CT.

I was trying to recollect which team I supported in the 30's, but could not remember a damn thing about my past life.

When Bangladesh was not in the proximity or was just on the horizon, I always used to pick WI and then SL. I have no idea why I liked WI (this is late 80's I am talking about, I was in my single digits). And then SL, mostly because I always felt, they are what we should role model after.

Right now, to be honest, I don't even know who plays for what team, who their good players are (until they are to face BD). I have absolutely zero interest about any foreign team unless we are playing them. So, I don't give a rat's *** about IPL or champions trophy or whatever that we are not part of.

The past players that I had admiration for: Cartley Ambross (sp), Wasim Akram, Mohamed Ajharuddin, Arbinda De Silva. I cannot find any pattern there.

That's exactly how I follow cricket nowadays. I only follow ashes and SA once in a while, that too by just looking over the scorecard.

I am getting old

If I have to go back to old days then I will have to support Pakistan
I usually support Srilanka, but the SAfrican team is more fun to watch with players like Amla,DeVilliers,Steyn.
So both Srilanka & SA will get my support.

I used to be a hardcore Australia fan during the (Hayden, Gilly, Langer, Clarke, Ponting, Warne, McGrath) Invincible Era. But i got bored watching them because they would win every single darn test match and watching a team win all the time gets boring.

In terms of sub continental teams i have always supported Sri Lanka. I hate Pak (for obvious reasons) and i don't like India as well so SL and BD will always be my fav.

We are not talking about Hanif's era. Something you (unlike me) know rather well.
