Ash was a betting man. Look at his toss winning percentage. The jury is out between Shak and Mushy.

i would say shak is the best on field captain and mushy is the best off field, shak's team was weaker then mushy's though

shak was the worst off field captain though and mushy is the worse on field

I think overall Mushy is the best captain for us right now . At least there is no off field issues and the bonding of the team is better

For team unity and development mushy is the best captain, yes sometimes he has brain failures on field.

This stats are irrelevant when it comes to judge captaincy because our team has improved over time but I am pretty sure that was not the point if of the OP

One comment: best != successful.

Successful is statistical and quantitative.
Best is subjective and qualitative.

The table is a purely statistical rendering and does not in anyway convey "best ness".

For almost same time periods.....Mushfiqur has captained only half the matches that Shakib has done? Wow we are playing lesser and lesser.

Shakib's number is a bit skewed because we played a lot against Zim + series against weak WI

Shakib Win
ZIM 13
WI 3
NZ 3
IRE 1
END 1
NED 1
Total 22
Against G8 (minus weak WI) Win Ratio = 0.24

Mushfiq Win
ZIM 1
WI 4
NZ 3
IND 1
SL 2
Total 11
Against G8 Win Ratio = 0.476

------------

Thing is we have started to win consistently against the top teams. We beat full strength WI 4 times, SL 2 times and now NZ 3 times. I think the improvement started from the end of Shakib's tenure and then curve is going now under Mushy.

Based on performance vs. G8, Mushy is the most successful captain. How much of that is down to his captaincy vs. general player development and the better quality of new squad members (e.g. Gazi, Nasir) is debatable.

MAK Pataudi was one of the best captain, despite his record. Don Bradman was one of the best and the most successful captain. Pilot was a good captain, despite his record. Mushfiq could become much better if he seeks help from good tacticians in the team.

Bashars record isnt bad considering the talent our team had to offer and the number of matches he was responsible for.

Mushfiq has been groomed for captaincy for a long time. If you go back to the u-19 days of 2004 -05 Mushfiq was the captain of the U-19 team that had Tamim, Shakib, Shuvo (Shamsur), Shuvo(Sohrawardy), Roqibul, Zia et al. He even captained the BKSP team before that.

we have better cricketers now; but that is in bangladesh. we have to see thier potential in overseas conditions (non- subcontinental wickets). this being said, i think gazi will make it anywhere. his bowling is right up there with the best- he reminds of johan botha: can bowl and can bat.Mominul's biggest test is out of subcontinent. nasir can make it anywhere. shamsur rahman needs more matches and IMHO shoukd have played in all of the matches in this series, Naeem is slowly coming back into team,. rubel needs to be nutured, he should only play ODIs for now.

shakib wasn't all that good of a captain, he used to be excellent when things went our way, but as soon as things went wrong, he would shout and get frustrated by the fact no one could do what he could, it didnt bode well for the team.

Rahim whilst tactically isn't the best, he gets his team to play for him, in a tough situation he can lift the players, end of the day a good leader is one who can get the people behind him to play for him; mushy can, shakib couldn't - in his mind as a captain he could do it on his own, hence against the bigger teams we didn't play all that well - also we had no nasir.

For me Mortaza would have been the best had he remained fit, he could lift the teams spirit very well, whilst tactically he was quite decent also.

After mushfiq reaches 47 matches being a captain, his winning % will most likely surpass Shakib.

The reason behind this is mostly because - A CAPTAIN IS AS GOOD AS HIS TEAM.

When Shak was captaining, we had more deadwood then not. Today, we have less deadwood in the team.

Even though I don't like Mushy's captaincy, he does make some horrendous decisions sometimes, he is still a TEAM PLAYER and keeps his head cool. When Shak was captaining, I felt that he used to get more angry, didn't know how to control his emotion.

Godzilla made a point. Shakib used to get frustrated at his teammates but that happens when you are surrounded by some lazy bums. I remember during a series in 2011 against Australia, a ball went to third man who felt so lazy that he stopped the ball with his foot and moved forward. The Australian batsman where smart enough to complete another run. On the other hand there was someone who uses to block full tosses. A batsman who is going to write a novel named : The 100 ways to edge the ball. An opener/no. 3 whose technique was so weird it gave many cancer. Add to that, 2 finishers who did not want to hit a six even if their life depended upon it.
