very classy of you... a waiter who made a mistake of billing u at a lower amount....u decided to be the moral piece of meat that u are.. corrected him and decided to punish him by not tiping because of math error in your favor and not service error.

way to go....spreading good morals...

sad part is you come here and tell us this story as if you did something extraordinary.... when i read it it sounded borderline pathetic to me.

+1. People make mistake. You didn't have to leave him a great tip, but at least leave him something. Beside the check error, was the service that bad?

i think it was the drinks with multiple refills..... poor waiter served 14 ppl without getting a cent....and probably had to hear some galagali from his boss...

Dude, I would Love to participate in MLC, it's just that I traveled to Saudi Arabia + Egypt for 21 days for 'Umrah...and I Alhamdulillah, am back to the states since last two weeks.. MLC, it's first season is over anyways(about to be over)

It's appalling! The prices of 'luxury' foods such as milkshakes and ice tea in Dhaka are about the same as in Europe! Even basic necessities are not much cheaper! (In fact, when it's potato season in Germany, it's possible to get a 10kg bag of potatoes for ONE euro)

Service was horrible(hence the lack of a tip - the guy at the till made the initial mistake with the bill). I had to wait 20 minutes for a waiter to acknowledge us, and I was made to wait close to 30 minutes to receive my bill.

Cream & Fudge - Bailey Road & Banani are excellent, prompt, polite and staff that are there without being visible if you get what I mean.

@Dilscoop - 14 scoops! ~240 a scoop, you add the price of cones + a couple of drinks + VAT

@idumb - meh, nothing about setting an example or good morals...we're all randoms on an internet forum, I'm not too fussed one way or the other.

I did what I did...and I'd probably do it again - you earn a tip, it's not a God given right, though everyone in Bangladesh seems to think otherwise.

I've learned this from my ornery late grand-FIL. He said all waiters start off with 1 cent tip and they then have to work their way up. I have left a cent tip and I've also left a 100% tip on a fairly robust bill. Given that in the US, the restaurateurs pass on their obligation to pay their waitstaff a living wage on to the patrons, I do tack in minimum tip of 20% normally for a satisfactory service. I'll go up from there. I only go down to the 1c for truly atrocious service and if I do not plan on returning to the restaurant. I also leave a comment was to why I was so harsh (I do the same for great sevice).
