Saqib Al Hasan
The March 2005 edition of the Wisden Cricketer magazine http://plus.cricinfo.com/link_to_database/ARCHIVE/CRICKET_NEWS/2005/FEB/185193_WCM_18FEB2005.html has profiled 21 of the world's best Under 21 cricketers. They picked minimum of 2 players from each test playing nation. Mohammad Ashraful and Saqib Al Hasan were the two players that got picked from Banladesh. We all know what Ashraful is capable of doing when he is in form. I was trying to get the link of the page, but there was none. So, please find below the profile of Saqib Al Hasan:
Saqib Al Hasan
LHB, SLA, 15
Spotted at a talent-hunt programme in the sleepy district of Magura, Saqib had not even played club cricket before this season. Since his Dhaka Premier Division debut he has been the most consistent all-rounder for his club Victoria and was rewarded with a call up to the Bangladesh “A” team. “His greatest asset is his age-defying maturity”, says his coach Mahammad Salahuddin. “He only thinks cricket and has unique adaptability. He doesn’t look out of place in any role.” He is particularly strong on the back foot, an uncommon quality in Bangladeshi batsmen which helped him distinguish himself in the most competitive domestic league where, for the first time matches were held on pacy green top wickets. He also enjoys impressive turn with his orthodox spin.

Oh, Another SLA! How old is he again? 15 or 16? From the look of his stats he seems like a decent left handed bat which is useful.

I agree, we need a few quality left handed batsmen.

He has actually been performing for the A side as well. In UAE, he didn't have much success with the bat but picked up 7 wickets in 4 games. In the Test match that finished yesterday in Zimbabwe, he picked up 7 wickets and scored 58 runs. He is definitely one to watch out for.

I'm rooting for Shahrier Nafees Ahmed too. A left handed opener would be more useful.
Honestly I can see Saqib playing for A team for ages. There is hardly any room for another SLA in the set-up. We could be better off with an offie.

He's still very young. Would like to see him flourish to his full potential. Good luck.

Unlike the other SLAs, Saqib is a batting allrounder and would give our national team a good balance(will allow us to go with 3 fast bowlers along with enamul or play an extra batsman in place of the third seamer) after a couple of years(when Rafique retires). The other SLA (also a batting allrounder) Mehrab Hossain Jnr also looks promising but he is more of a batsman and will be more useful in the shorter version of the game where he could chip in with some overs in the middle overs.

Well, batting allrounder is an overused term in BD cricket. Most of them are actually bits and pieces player. If Sakib, or anyone for that matter, can atleast average 30+ with bat and under 30 with ball in A team matches (stats of domestic NCL matches could be misleading) then we can call him allrounder, in true sense.

Saqib did very well against Zimbabwe A in the last test match. He scored 27 and 31 batting at no 7 and took 5 wkts for 41 in the second innings. He also picked up 2 wkts in the first innings.

CricInfo describes in the match report that he is a left-arm medium pacer.
CricInfo also tates in his profile that he is a left-arm medium pacer.
Who can clarify this?

I would also like to know for sure whether Saquib is a spinner or pacer (left arm).

I wrote that profile of Saqib in the March edition of Wisden. He is definitely a left-arm spinner. However....batting is his main strength.
