Its even been updated to 8.8. Just for comparison the Indonesia earthquake was 9.0. This is huge.

8.8 is huge. People should know that the Richter scale is logarithmic. What this means is that for each whole number you go up on the Richter scale, the amplitude of the ground motion recorded by a seismograph goes up ten times.

very few casualties reported so far and wont be surprised if it stays that low. Japan has state of the art tsunami warning systems and what not. If any country can 'handle' a 8.9 earthquake... its Japan...

Thank you guys for praying peoples safety (including me) here in Japan. I am fine, had to come home by foot that took almost 3 hours
since entire railway system still not in service. Casualty seems to rise as officially 38 person is dead and near 100 more injured in Miyagi.
In Tokyo 3 people announced dead but casualty seems very little, though few fire break out in Tokyo bay area.

Few items in my house are displaced, and some glasses are broken but other than that everyting is ok. My family lives in Dhaka and are safe.
In short thats all for now, and Morgan just now got out!! Thanks again guys.
