The bolded part is deeply problematic. How many people in Bangladesh have a verifiable Bachelor's degree? A minuscule fraction out of the 160 million people in the country. My Mother and many of my Khalas and Khalus teach at DU and from what I have heard, even the few that do get Bachelor's degrees are not particularly 'enlightened'. So, why should they constitute the electorate?

Even if we consider these enlightened, educated folk to be benevolent to their fellow man, how do we know that they will have the best interests of the common farmer/peasant/worker at heart when they vote? How can we be sure that they, in their 'ivory towers', will even be aware of what those interests are?

Even before getting to the verifiable degree holders, ever wondered how many people will NOT have a say in voting? Democracy is supposed to be for the people, not for the educated people only.

BANFAN said it nicely - it's not about who gets to vote, rather, who gets voted for. Perhaps we need to have primaries like the US, and also not allow someone to run for more than 2 terms in their lifetime.

I have no idea on what system of government Bangladesh should have. No idea at all. This is my 2 cents on this topic and as they say, everyone's opinions matter.
