How fast are our "fast" bowlers?
How fast are our fast bowlers? I have come across a compilation (somewhat incomplete) that contains many big names but it contians none of ours. http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/con...rds/95065.html I wonder if any our seamers ever consitently cross 140kph. I know some of you will jump on this and site one or two occasions where someone reported a few deliveries in low 140kph. I see in the list many of the bowlers listed in that table have bowled in 150kph and still catagorized Medium Fast bowlers. Only a few on th top are listed as pure fast bowlers. Even in the MFB catagory we are absent (neither is SL and only a handful for India). Lasith Malinga make another list ( http://www.latesttopten.com/top-10-w...ory-of-cricket) but I do not agree with it. Her was never express fast. He got wickets due to his unusual delivery style.
In any event, I would like to see where we stand. Perhaps, we are in the range between 120 - 135kph. Mushrafi in his hey days may have chuked a few in the low to mid forties.

Rubel was in the low 140s and high 130s quite consistently in one or two spells across both tests in the recently concluded SL Test series.

Is it that much hard to grasp? Any idea about how much is the speed of Shahid Afridi? It would be an eye opener for many of us.

Really! How can I find out? It was an eye-openner for me when I saw Nasir bowling 120kph. I think Afridi will not be any faster. Our first SLA used to be pacer at start of his career and then was talked into testing his skills in spin bowling. I read somewhere the he used to bowl at mid twenties.

The first list excludes Shaun Tait. I think the fastest a Bangladeshi has bowled was Rubel Hossain during the 2011 World Cup.

Are you talking about Rafique? Yes he was a medium pacer to start with.

Yes that was against Zimbabwe in his debut series. The speed was shown in the electronic scoreboard not the television data bar.
If Rubel wants i bet he can reach 145, he's just not overdoing it after return from injury. Shafiul, Abul are also capable of crossing 140. From what is seems Taskin is also 140 plus. But the key is to find bowlers who can do it effortlessly without over straining of over exerting themselves. And then you have back that pace with proper aggression. Its all about psychology. Steyn is successful because he does this beautifully. Puts fear in the mind of the batsmen.

Mid 120s to mid 130s KMPH is the average range from what I've seen. Koushik, Rubel, Shuhash, Rajib and Raju have bowled at the mid to high 130s for consecutive overs. Koushik and Raju can do the low 140s on occasion with Rubel hitting the mid 140s, but those are exceptions rather than the norm.
Tazin's pace is similar to Raju's but he's young and will pick up pace.

the fastest BD bowler was sajal chowdhury as far as i seen ....
was in the same batch of u-19 of bangladedeh which had hasibul hossain and morshed ali khan sumon.
played for bangldesh in the tourney where the A teams of other subcontinent teams played. there he was the opening bowler along with anisur rahman and saiful islam used to bowl oe change. rafique also played the first time for BD in that tournamnet and we beat india A by 1 run, when rafiq bowled an excellent last over.
those days speed guns were not available that much but i beleive sajal chowdhury used to bowl 90 mph + regulalrly

I'll just give you a hint, if I were to ball with the speed I used to ball, my hand will now be detached from my body automatically....

Ditto, being the Pacehead he is, I'm still waiting for his educated guesstimate.

Looks about right but I've seen Koushik hit 135-140 for 3 straight overs recently. What's your take on Shuhash?

Mash was bowling that fast recently? Jeez. I saw him hit 144 in the World Cup vs India where he was consistently well past 140.
Shafiul was skiddy early on, regularly crossing 135 and even 140. But last few years he hasn't been much faster than 130.

What's the point of being fast if they can't even be trusted to complete half of their quota?

First they'll need to avoid bowling at least 1 or 2 "hit-me" deliveries every other over.
