'Don't underestimate us'

Former captain Raees Ahmadzai reels off achievements breathlessly and says the time is not far when they can take on the game's big teams.

"We have great fast bowlers. They are faster than Indian pace bowlers and on a par with the Pakistanis," he says.

"Hamid Hasan has clocked bowling speeds of 145kmph. Shahpur Zadran, another pacer, has clocked 140kmph."

Don't underestimate Afghan batting as well, warns Ahmadzai

even if they are fast is there any garuntee that they can swing the ball or bowl in a tight line, just pace isnt enough to become agood bowler to become one you need to be smart example:rasel, vaas etc.

I wouldn't say they were par with Pakistani bowlers. Not a very intelligent statement. Many players in the world can reach 140s. But you can't just have pace. You need skill and control. You also need variations in pace. I doubt they're anywhere close to Pakistan's league.

i would love to see the afghan team replace bermuda or canada as an ODI status team: more power for asia...perhaps in 10 years cricket may become the biggest sport there.

sadly, they won't develop at all because who the hell would want to tour their and get blown up?

they will essentially be an all-road team.

Afghanistan cricket rise has been stunning for such a troubled country. It would be great to see them reaching 2011 world cup!

All I have seen from the Afgan Captain is cockiness. From last year when they came to the lime light, he stated that Afganistan would Beat BD. Afganistan is the new force bla bla. Instead of focusing outwards he needs to focus inward. Let others underestimate and pay the price. That should not be any of his concern. The respect would come after winning matches automatically. You can not make people respect you. Too much of boasting is not good.

on par with pace, perhaps, but I doubt they have the discipline, line and length.

for the batsmen of lesser teams pace alone can be effective..
