The cell phone war is getting better and better. Sony Erricson announces its new lines of phones and their next release of tablets.
Somehow...it wasn't a leveled field without Google. Now that Google is there, the game is so on! Apple, RIM, and Google...three fighting for it all.

Only thing Windows will get is the Nokia's established market. That may be the only way they'll work.

with that nokia will lose all their market. I know they merged with windows but i think it was a bad move from nokia's side. I used to love their phones until i met iPhone...

I just joined the iPhone club as well curtesy of work. I am actually kind of disappointed with the simplicity of it. There is no expert user level. Everything is way too simple for a geek's taste. Not sure I am Able to explain.

perfect candidate for an android...
that was my reason atleast, iphone just tells you how to do things (saying millions are doing it this way) vs the open android platform (more options for us who delve into development)
then again not everyone needs a smart phone for development purposes and happy with how everyone else is doing it.
That superbowl commercial of Motorola xoom (Android 3.0 tablet) says it quite well...

Ruby bhai has hit the nail in the head. That's one reason I like my bb more. Wifey has an iPhone, and we have an iPad. iPad has some more "fun" to it, but still all only about the browsing experience.

Windows 7 mobile is good. Still no where near android or iOS but lot better than their previous windows mobile software. They don't really have many apps on their market but people who likes Xbox will probably go for this.
I have an android. Bought a mid level phone to try out. Trying out different roms. its a lot of fun.

I would rate iPhone4 as one of the top-5 in the market today but I doubt it can capture the top-spot anymore. Those days when iPhone 3x would beat competitions like BB Storm etc. hands down are long gone. HTC, Motorola and Samsung have learned pretty well over the years. Android is already ahead of iOS in app market share and the gap will only increase. Competition on tablet market will also jump with Motorola Xoom coming soon and LG getting into the game as well.
Of the current lineup I would put HTC MyTouch 4G, Motorola Droid X, Apple iPhone 4, Samsung Epic 4G and HTC EVO in the top 5. Some of these claim to be "4G" capable which is becoming more of a marketing ploy these days than actual network speed. The next generation true 4G phones coming in first and second quarter of this year should push these devices off the top-5 list easily. Several of these will have the Tegra2 dual-core processors and I read somewhere EA is planning to develop games on the mobile platform specifically targeted for these new devices. Some notable mentions are Sony Ericsson XPeria Arc, Motorola Atrix, Motorola Droid Bionic, HTC Thunderbolt.
Further down the road (summer/fall lineup) I read rumors about iphone 5, a killer BB from RIM and Motorola Droid X2.

Thinking of an iphone clone!
I have never owned any Apple products and don't wish to either unless my financial circumstances were to change drastically. I have been using the net on homebuilt PCs out of salvaged parts for years and it is a more than satisfying interactive experience. In truth, I am a bit of a hog when it comes to old technology. I use two phones, one of them 8 years old and the other 6. So in technology terms they are getting on a bit. The main phone is a Windows Mobile smartphone from 2006 and on its last legs. So I am looking to get something that would be accepting both sim cards at the same time and would ideally be unlocked. I have no interest in taking up a contract so my web searched revealed a Chinese made phone that looks like a replica of the iPhone. This does not bother me too much although I wish it was not so much of a clone. The operating system is Java based but it really seem to have all the functionality I need - two sims operational at the same time and wifi enabled. The price is around 53 UK pounds so I think I shall take the plunge and get one! It is called an i9 3Gs made by Sciphone.
Anyone here used Chinese made cheap phones before?
My previous phones had all been Nokia and the dying one is an O2 XDA miniS.

LOL! You got that right. From what I'm told, in the U.S. iPhone's issue with voice call is due to AT&T's voice/data going through same pipeline and the high data usage has a negative impact on voice traffic. With iPhone 4 moving into other networks as well maybe that issue will get resolved. Also I think AT&T itself will move to LTE 4G by Fall which is all IP based. Either way I personally wouldn't go for an iPhone having used Android Phones for a while now. Like I said earlier, one just has to look at the growing influence of the Android platform to see which OS has the edge.

Lots of "since I use this phone, the other guys phone is crap". I am a techie and have been rooting and hacking when the words meant something in the 80s and for my phone I use the iPhone. I also believe in providing a great user experience (HCI is one of my background skills), simplicity (KISS adage) and that a device should do well what it advertises to do. Hence the iPhone. If I need to "hack" - I have remote desktop, telnet, shell and other apps that I can use to connect to my machines or to the cloud. I am happy with the iPhone. I was happy with my BB before.
