Default How The Spinners Fared

T20 is supposed to a batsmans game. Its definitely not something bowlers would enjoy, especially spinners. But nevertheless its a good test for any bowler-a test of their technical ability as well as their ability to think and outfox the batsmen. How have your spinners been faring in BPL T20 2012? Definitely much better than some of the foreign bowlers. And if these guys played more in Chittagong they would have had far superior statistics.

Best Spinners in BPL (So Far)

Shakib- Still the best of the lot and should be our number 1 for both test and ODI. Most consistent. Can bowl according the situation-can attack, and can slow down opposition. 9 wickets so far in 7 matches and excellent economy rate.

Enamul Jnr- This guy is a must for the test team, and could also be a part of the shorter versions. Most attacking of all our bowlers and has the knack of picking wickets. 9 wickets in 6 matches. Good economy rate. If we manage him well he could be a match winner.

Arafat Sunny- Probably the revelation of the series so far. 8 wickets, and economy rate below 6. Some stunning deliveries to dismiss top quality batsmen in recent matches.

Elias Sunny-Has picked up 7 wickets, but probably doesnt seem as effective as the other Sunny. I think West Indies success was one time thing. Should be 3rd choice in tests. Shouldnt be in ODI's

Abdur Razzak- Economy rate below 6 is a positive. 7 wickets so far. This guy is our most experience spinner. But the selectors should only use him in shorter versions. Really doesnt deserve a place in tests. Enamul and Elias are much better

Suhrawadi Shuvo- Has been disappointing. Fairly expensive as well. A lot of us had a lot of hope in this guy. In BPL he hasnt done well, nor has done great in the ODI's he was given an opportunity in. Not at all ready for national team. Well behind the Sunny's

Saqlain Sajib- Very dangerous in one particular match. But other than that pretty average.

Mosharraf Hossain- Expected a lot more from him given his experience. Bowls a good line, but doesnt have wicket taking delivers.

Nabil Samad- Seemed very average in the 5 matches he has played. Weakest of all the spinners.

Didnt include part timers in the above list. Everyones a left arm spinner in the list. BCB needs to listen to Murali's advice-we need to find off spinners and leg spinners. But then again all the bowlers above have bowled far better than the Sri lankan legend so far

To summarize lets categorize spinners into two groups. The first group forces batsmen to make mistakes and get wickets-they beat them with turn, bounce, flight and variation. World class spinners fall in this category. The second group has bowlers who waits for batsmen to make mistakes-mis hit, poor footwork etc. Unfortunately except Shakib, Enamul and probably Arafat Sunny, everyone seems to be in the second category. Hope the BPL was an eye opener for selectors as much as it was for us the fans.
