Default The Inventors' Square

Having grown up reading Weird and Wacky Inventions as posted below, I have a certain fondness for the antique Victorian inventions of strange contraptions and gadgetry.

There is one where one train goes over another while there is one from a self-serving dinner table to a self-tipping hat. How I trifled about imagining tires which will burst in flames when speeding on highway and deflate or a tabooed missile full of gooey stuff pointed at "a" Islamic holy site to be released upon a terrorist activity to prevent terrorism.

But enough about me. It's suffice to say none of them surfaced to immortality.

Today however is a big day for a Big Man. It's none other than our good ol' Doc who has received yet another patent.

It's my honor and pleasure to start this thread for further future inductees. Take a bow, the real Zunaid who intrigues us.

Others feel free to PM if you qualify to be in this hall of fame with authentic certification of patents.

Patent applications are generally published 18 months after the earliest priority date of the application.

Not usually. This second one was a very complex patent and we folded in 92 claims. 92 claims is about 60 claims too many. I had suggested that we break the application down to three or four separate ones (and all four were defensible and would have been approved) but the company balked at the 4 times increase in the filing cost. Part of the long delay can be attributed to the complexity of the patent which allowed the examiner to be confused with another technique which he thought invalidates this one. Apples and oranges, but the edification process was time-consuming. But, all is well as it ended well.

The first one took about 2 years but we had experienced patent attorneys at IBM Watson to steer it through.

In my personal experience, it can take as little as 15 months to as high as 50+ months.

The primary cost is in legal fees. Other costs are nominal.
