Default National team will tour Namibia

BCB finally decided to send the National Team to Namibia as a preparation to Zimbabue tour.

Bangladesh will go there on the 29th January. They will play 3 one day and one three/four day match. Then Bangladesh will leave for Zimbabue on February 12.

Not a bad thing. Namibia did give us couple of tough matches in the 4-1 series last time we played them. They also played well in the world cup. I think this would be a good run up for the zimbabwe tour. I remember the Namibian wicket being of really good quality.

On another note - it would have been a good tour for the A team hopefuls. *sigh*

BCB should do what Kenya does. They pretty much have 10-20 players. They would play their national team under a Kenya Pres XI or KCB XI against some of the icc associate sides. That way, when the team loses, they don't lose as the national team.

Jan 29 - Feb 12. That's 15 days, if you discount the flying time and jet leg and remove 4 days, that leaves us with 11 playing days. 3 matches and one 3-day match will see us occupied for 6 days. Do you think it will be too much and could get us a little tired before the real test in Zimbabwe ?

Also, this will give Dav the chance to experiment the team if he still doesn't get the right combination at the end of the england tour.

We can send a mock-up BCB 11 to Namibia. There we can have all the practice matches for the selection of the real 11 against ZIM.

Well, the Namibians are a pretty good side for an associate member. But I still believe that it would have been better to send the A Team or the Under 19 team. If it's practice matches they wanted I am sure they could have gotten that from some provincial Zimbabwe sites.

The only reason I can think of for this is that BCB doesn't want the National Team to spend too much time in Zimbabwe given the volatile situation in that country.

Default Namibia Again?

It will only hamper with our main goal - playing the test series and the one day series in Zimbabwe.

Why can't the organizers organize practice matches in Zimbabwe?

It happened before the World Cup 2003 also. The only difference this time is the coach.

And about experimenting against Namibia, we have experienced during the World Cup that playing against Namibia gained nothing for us. It only gave us the opposite ideas to what our players are capable of. Remember Rokon's 170 odd runs against Namibia in 1 one day match? And look at Rokon's performance during the world cup.

If the tour really goes on, we can only hope to see more disappointment, disappointment and disappointment. ALL OVER AGAIN.
