BDFlag Who should Partner Tamim in ODI vs WI? And what is your 15 man squad?

Mushfiqur Rahim (capt), Mahmudullah (vice-capt), Imrul Kayes, Nazimuddin, Jahurul Islam, Shakib Al Hasan, Nasir Hossain, Mashrafe Mortaza, Abdur Razzak, Elias Sunny, Nazmul Hossain, Shafiul Islam, Shahadat Hossain, Anamul Haque and Tamim Iqbal

^This was our Last ODI series(Asia cup) squad. Personally i would drop Nazim(You know why?), Jahirul Islam(Don't know why Selectors even picked him for Asia cup, he is a gd longer version player but not for OD), Kayes for forgetting how to score runs even in NCL . Finally the one and only Shahdat Hossain Rajib...Do i need to remind his epic last over?

So this leaves me with(11 players): Mushfiqur Rahim (capt), Mahmudullah (vice-capt), Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan, Nasir Hossain, Mashrafe Mortaza, Abdur Razzak, Elias Sunny, Nazmul Hossain, Shafiul Islam, Anamul Haque

The rest I would pick to make it 15 r Rubel, Gazi, Nayeem(for opening) and Zia.

Now who would be opening the batting along with Tamim? TBH i don't find any suitable candidate apart from Anamul but we need a number 3 bat too so I'll bat Anam @ 3. Kayes is badly out of form, nayeem is slow type of player and i'm pretty sure he will make the cut so wondering it's not gonna be a bad idea if we open with Nayeem than kayes. There is not much difference between Kayes and nayeem but imho Nayeem is slightly better player than kayes coz of his Fielding and bowling. If nayeem gets picked, he should open as i think he dont have any palace between 4-7.

Or open with Zia.

So my vote goes to Nayeem, if he fails then Zia.

MY XI would be:

1) Tamim
2) Nayeem/Zia
3) Anamul
4) Shakib
5) Mushy
6) Nasir
7) Riyad
8) Gazi
9) Mash
10) Nazmul/Rubel
11) Razzak

On topic: I would definitely go with Kayes from past experience of taking the attack to the batsman. Sure Juaned and Nafees may fit the bill or even Ash, but Kayes is consistence. Dunno about his domestic performance but that doesn't tell the story alone.

Abar jigay. Ke abar..the only and only aguner pola thukku aguner gola, The business tycoon, Model/dancer The Sir Ash..He will open .

Anyways, I really wish Anamul gets selected and opens for us. Kayes, SN, Junaed the weakest fielder, Nazim are all crap.

Since we've already lost the second Test, might as well start talking about ODIs.

Imrul Kayes has to be it, given his recent form in one day games. Razzak should be back. SN, Zunaed, Naeem, SRK, Shohag get the chop.

1. Iqbal
2. Payesh
3. al-Hasan
4. N. Hossain
5. Rahim
6. Riyad
7. Rahman (bumped from T20s - go for it, let's see if you can hit it to the Bongoposhagor)
8. Mortaza
9. Razzak
10. Sunny
11. N. Hossain

12. Anamul (for continuity, not sure if he's ready yet)
13. R. Hossain
14. Islam (for continuity)
15. Jurgensen

Pick these players and we will lose by 50 runs as opposed to the customary 100.

Riyad is a bad limited overs player and even worse down the order...not that I'd like to see him up top. Rubel Hossain would do a better job at 6. But I'd take Anam form your squad. Otherwise a good squad. I'd also put Gazi in the mix as I think he has what it takes to be a decent bat.

Zia is a slogger, he is not opening material. Also Nayeem would be out of sorts being put as an opener, last few months he has been practicing and training to be #4 batsman and he had the patience and temperament to go with it. Putting him in an opening position in an ODI would make him feel unsettled.

Very good question Nadim!, Although I voted for Anamul Haque, Imrul Kayes is probably the ideal person because he's a specialist in that format I mean his record suggests that he does well in ODIs as compared to T20s and especially Tests which isn't his form of game. I will however continue to use 3 pacers in ODIs as it has 'overall' benefited us in the Asia Cup but will swap one fast bower for another. Here's my ideal XI where its a format we have a huge chance of winning anyway:

01.Tamim Iqbal
02.Imrul Kayes
03.Anamul Haque/Shahriar Nafees
04.Shakib Al Hasan
05.Nasir Hossain
06.Mushfiqur Rahim
07.Mahmudullah Riyad
08.Mashrafe Mortaza
09.Abdur Razzak
10.Rubel Hossain
11.Nazmul Hossain

I feel for certain that this XI is good enough for us to win the ODI series possibly another Banglawash. But definitely no Nazimuddin or Shahadat after their poor performance in Asia Cup. We would've won like it or not if these two played to their A game. Naeem Islam has improved now and should for now just focus on Tests so he doesn't ruin all his hard work. This squad I have selected is based on ODI performances and records and should be good enough to win the ODI series at least 3:2 4:1 if not another Banglawash. Its important though that we win this series anyway because if we do, in our future ODI series, instead of playing 3 customary ODIs, may be raised to 5 meaning more matches for our team so its important for us anyway.

Kaedge. He should have never dropped in the first place. Our selector's are so messed up in the head. They select Nazim for Asia cup based on his one 90+ innings in Test, but drop Kayes who was one of our leading run scorer in ODI in 2011. Kayes seats and eat balls on one side while Tamim does his own thing on the other side, that's much better than being 1 down within 3 overs.

Missed out Jahurul from the poll. I've gone for him. Did well in last year's DPL. In future I hope Soumya Sarkar can do the job for us.

Nazza! of course. What a no-brainer!

It's not "who'll open with Tamim?" but "who'll have the honor of opening with the great Nazimuddin?", BTW!

My ODI XI:

1. Nazza!
2. Shahriar Mofees (C)
3. JuSi (WK)
4. Rocky!/Aftab/Saleh
5. Mehrab "Junior"/Saleh
6. "Decans"/Saleh
7. MA Motin
8. MS ShuVo
9. MM "not out" Riyad (VC)
10. The Rajib
11. The Abul

12th Man: Aftab/Rocky/Saleh

I'm tempted to put Zia. He is the best slogger we got(!) and his presence in the XI can make a difference. Those extra 15-25 runs maybe crucial. Because, Riyad doesn't have the balls to finish or set a target

But again, our brilliant captain sees Zia as a slogger and nothing more. Doesn't even give him an over to bowl. Pathetic.

Guys...Anamul is not a limited overs player yet. He averages only 16.28 in List A matches while averages 45.42 in FC matches. It clearly shows that he is really for longer version but not for shorter ones yet.

We must not do an "Akram" by pushing him in ODIs.

Yet he plays T20 for Pont's mighty Dhaka Gladiators?

Well, I'm certain that he can get those numbers up. He should just play more.
