Where has the "Ash shot" gone?
As I'm sure you all know Mohammad Ashraful is known for his trademark paddle-scoops to fine-leg. This almost always results in a 4 or 6. But now Ashraful, batting at 3 in ODI's, has decided to stop being aggressive and throwing away his wicket. But he has also decided to stop using these paddle-scoops we love so much to see. As it is his most successful shot, I think that he should continue to use this shot in ODI's regularly, improving his strike-rate at 3 massively and also getting plenty of runs at the same time. What do you think?

So...it's either Ash's #3 spot or the paddle-scoop.
Let the contest begin...I wanna see some blood, and a combination of big/small intestines. If none there, I'll settle for lungs.

I wonder what will the opposition do when they realize that?

"Ash Shot" would be touring Marrara Cricket Ground, Darwin later this month. Don't forget to invite "her" though...!

As long as Ash doesn't throw away his wickets and starts playing more sensibly I am okay with it. It doesn't matter if he plays it or not, the bigger thing would be whether we are improving or not and if we start winning constantly against the top teams!!

How can he play the shot if Fine Leg isn't up anymore? Anyways he likes playing the shot at the end of an innings where can anticipate Yorkers and more Full lengths balls

Ash's Flick!
he should do what he did vs RSA in WC07. he should play this ONLY if he manage to stay on the field till the slog over, and use it to get quick runs. shouldnt try this on his beginning of the innings.

He's probably thinking for a new fancy shot when he gets 100's against the top teams

Seeing this its really very hard to believe that a player of this quality averages in the mid twenties...!!!

I can think of to occasions when that shot has got him out - against South Africa during the world cup, and against England in the Natwest series of '05, where he tore them apart but got out playing that shot on 94.

Also, I think, in the World Twenty20 at some point. I can't remember exactly when - maybe after his half-century against West Indies?

wasn't he working on a "new cut shot?" source: Local media before Asia Cup.
i see him using his popular flik shot more frequently in 20/20s rather than tests or ODIs, remember,in World Cup he only used those after the 38th over, right?

well come back. You are absent; Fazal gone; Orphy becoming serious BC became dull now a days.

ash shot can easily be stopped by placing a man at fine leg...if there isn't a guy at deep fine leg then i see no problems going for it...he's pretty much gonna have a 400+ strike rate (all will go for 4, some will go for 6). and he can play that shot off any ball...even good lenght balls a yard outside off aren't spared.

I might be wrong here, but I'm quite sure that I've seen Ashraful play this shot when there IS a deep-fine leg. He just hits it away from the fielder which gives him another boundary.
