Default Manchester United

This is the official thread for Manchester United Football Club. I can't believe there isn't a thread already dedicated to this legendary football club...

Anyway, this thread is for all Man Utd fans to discuss, well... Man Utd! Anything to do with Man U at all, be it their players, matches, transfers, kit etc.

I know there are some Man U fans on BC, (off the top of my head, Hatebreed, Sydney and Mr Cricket) so c'mon guys - show your support!

Non-Man U fans are welcome to post, but please, no haters.

3 weeks until the new season gets under way, and Fergie is yet to make any additions to that awful midfield.

Oh, and that new AIG kit looks pretty gay too.

I thought that too when I first saw it, but now it looks pretty decent to me. They were going for a retro look to celebrate the Busby Babes era. Here are some pics...

The white shield surrounding the emblem doesn't look good on the red background.

We should have a good season. Smith & Heinze will be back. Rooney back to full fitness as are Giggs & Scholes (best days behind him & he's going blind lol).

I hope we sign Torres as a replacement for RVN - that'd mean Rooney, Saha, Smith, Torres & Solskjaer fighting for a spot up front. Who knows what could happen - all of our strikers were injured at one time or another last season.

That said, we really need to sign at least one quality Midfielder. Doesn't look like it's going to be Gatusso, but I definatly don't want Riquelme at the club (Argentinian Midfielders + EPL = Bad Combination).

EPL kicks off in 3 weeks. Transfer deadline just over a month away. I'm getting nervous...

The kit is nice, kinda old skool.. only the AIG logo looks rubbish. At least they'll have the money for it and hopefully put it to better use like getting some decent players.. We really need a headstart this season.

Ruud can travel to Madrid (ManUtd.com)

Ruud van Nistelrooy has been given the go-ahead to undergo a medical with Real Madrid.

Reports on Thursday evening had suggested that a deal to take the striker to Spain had been sealed. However, a club statement has confirmed that these reports are premature.

A club spokeswoman told ManUtd.com: "Manchester United give permission for Ruud van Nistelrooy to travel to Real Madrid for a medical.

"However, terms of agreement are yet to be finalised between the two clubs."

If van the man goes to Real for £15m, which is what Utd want, then I think that would be a great bit of business. It would mean that Man U paid £4m (plus wages, obviously) for 150 goals in 5 years, which is not too shabby IMO. However, I doubt that it would be £15 mil, maybe just over 10.

Don't be nervous. You would be 4th after Chelsky, Gunners and Reds. May be you are nervous because you have to fight for 4th place with Tottenham

Tottenham minus Carrick/ United plus Carrick =

And your saying Arsenal will finish 2nd based on what exactly? The new stadium?

In your dreams may be..

I don't see any team other than Chelsky to fight for the top place. After all they have a billionaire to pay for all the world-class players.

At least Liverpool is a more respectable opponent so you go worry about Tottenham, which the 'Gonners' will have to fight again for the 4th place

We actually bought him for £19million. The sale seems to be closer to £10million than £15million, which is slightly dissapointing. Still, 150 goals & 5 years later - it was surely worth the investment.

I know he was bought for £19m, I meant 19m-15m (presuming the sale would have been £15m, which its not) which equals £4mil.

Anyway, I think he will probably be a flop in Madrid...its gonna be weird seeing him in a Real shirt. I wish him the best of luck...not.

Carrick is a good addition to the squad but Spurs will be ecstatic having only bought him for £2.75m 2 years ago.

lol public enemy #1 has finally returned... soon to be reunited.

Ronaldo & Rooney poised to meet
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...td/5230338.stm

Despite the shameful thing he's done in the WC, I think there should be a resolve to this matter so he can continue playing for Man Utd. It's time people moved on, I'm sure France supporters have done the same for Zidane, if that comes to a closest comparison. A truce and public statement from both Ronaldo and Rooney apologising for their behaviour should be the ice-breaker, so let's hope things go well.

Man, I wish I could be there to see them meet.

I'm glad Ronaldo stayed in Man U, because, despite what had happened, he still remains a wonderful and exciting player.

I read some article the other day he doesn't want to stay in England, that he's interested in playing in Spain and also Valencia are trying to buy him. So I'm I still doubtful whether he'll stay. Man Utd seem determined they'll not let him go and if he does stay I just hope he'll settle his issues quickly and start playing well.

After the World Cup he said he wanted to play for Real, but Man U said they are not letting him go and he will honour his contract. Also the Real president said that Ronaldo was not on their priority list.

Some other news now, Patrick Vieira , yes Vieira , has expressed his desire to play for Man U. All these years of rivalry with Keano, and seemingly hatred attitude towards United, and now he wants to play for us. :p

I am a liverpool fan. So I would not make any disrespectful comment on ManU in this thread. But british journalist (not the tabloid one) also think like me that Man U might be fifth even behind Totenham. During the gloomy days of 90s I watch with awe the tactical manuvere, stragecial decesion by Fergie. But it seems that he lost that completly. No disrespect for Carrick. But do you really believe he worth 18 million, if you consider a proven predator Nilstroy is valued only 10 million by the big spender Real Madrid? And now Man U do not have any striker with proven track record. Smith, Solskjer and Saha are good striker but any day Nilstroy is better than them. Also Saha is a mis master in the form of our Baros, Morientes. And at the age of 33 Solskjer can not play 90 mintues. Smith since his Leeds day spend as much time in hospital as in the field. Giggs and Roony are more provider than scorer. Even if Viera came, do you honestly believe a midfield containing Scholes, Viera, Giggs (all in the wrong side of 30) can match 90 minutes of fast premaireship football.

The article makes some interesting points, however, I still believe Utd can challenge for the title. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. This season is gonna be an exciting one...

I also heard about Viera wanting to play for United.. so has he been signed? I wouldn't mind this move, despite past rivalry and all that.

As for Carrick, I do think £18m is a lot more than he's worth but I'm not surprised about Nistelrooy's selling price. It was just about right value after all the time he played for United and scored those goals. We do need a specialist striker but I'm not too concerned about our midfield anymore.

Nope, Vieira hasn't signed for anyone as of yet. He is defo leaving Juve, and either heading to United or Inter Milan.

I too think Carrick was too pricey but I hope he shows his worthiness. He has been given the legendary number 16 shirt, so big things are expected of him. Here are some stats for Carrick:

CARRICK STATS 2005/6
Crosses: 231 in 35 games - 133 more than any other Spurs player
Passes: 1,938 - nearly 600 more than anyone else at Tottenham
Assists: Six - joint top (with Mido)
Goals: Two

Just read today that he has signed for Inter Milan for £6.5m. Juventus make a huge loss after only signing him last year for £13.7m. Never quoted myself before
