Default Interesting captaincy ; Ash as change bowler

In over 28 of the latest ODI, Ash got brought on, replacing Mahmadullah, took a wicket and was then Mahmudullah resumed bowling from that end.

Ash also got used successfully in short spells in the Test matches, bowling a five over and then a one over wicket spell in the first innings of the first WI test, and then a four over wicket spell and a one over spell (which had Best dropped by Kayes at short leg).

Second Test, Ash bowls three overs in the first innings, and one in the second.

Using an occasional legspinner as a change bowler in this way is, in my view, very good captaincy. As a leggie, Ash will flight the ball differently from the finger-spinners, and as a leggie he will bowl some crap that gets hit - and, indeed, mishit (its how every legspinner that is not named SK Warne or WJ O'Reilly has always operated, and will always operate), but it is much easier to mishit a leggie before the bastman has his eye in against him, especially if accurate finger-spinners have been on.

So, good play by the captain, and I hope to see many more games where Ash gets a one- or a four-over spell.

IanW,
Ash doesn't bowl leggie these days. He became an off spinner.

I thought that Ash was a leggie, but it is good that he can also bowl off spin. He seems to be a successful change bowler.

Zanaib,

I didnt see any evidence of topspinners, wronguns and so on, but the odd reference to arm balls, so it looks like he did defect to if not the Dark Side, then at least to the Accurate Side

According to JS though, Ash is not even a bowler and should not touch the ball. I don't know which way it will go .....

Thats only in T-20, which is not about breaking partnerships, but restricting runs.

ah the story of ash and his bowling he made his debut in tests as an allrounder replacing enamul hoque senior ! he was the dubbed as a promising leg spinner who can bat! then recently when BD went to SA for the 20/20 world cup he changed in to an off spinner. Whats good about ash is he gives the ball plenty of air and loop and is very slow compared to the others thats something different it entices batsmen in to making mistakes. Small man he is he tosses the ball above batsmen eye line. I loved todays and other days Shakib has handled ash.

IMO, how Sakib used pacers in stints was impressive. Also, thanks to him for breaking the taboo that Rasel can be used only in first 20 overs.

Using Ash is intelligent too. I guess batsman find it hard to resist hitting his lollipop deliveries and dies out of over-excitement

Recently we had a thread where we are arguing that whether Ashraful should bowl or not. Interesting thread.

Ashraful should bowl according to the situation. Not as a permanent bowler. It is the duty of a captain to judge whether he should bowl or not. Till now he clicked randomly but if he fail to click in near future should we discuss again?

When Sachin Tendulkar was Indian Captain he used Robin Sing as No 3 Batsman (India tour of WI 1997) to get advantage of Fielding Restriction (Present Power Play). Robin Singh failed to score and Sachin was criticized. After that, Md. Azharuddin used the same strategy with Robin Singh and this time Robin Singh got success (Final of 1998 Independence Cup in Dhaka, Bangladesh against Pakistan). Azharuddin was admired for this decision.

But fact is, This is actually matter of Luck.

This is not the first time Ash did it. He did it with SA, more than once with NZ, with WI and now against Zim. He is a thinking cricketer

Any disagreements

Ashraful's teacher Wahidul Ghani, is known as having good Leg Spin knowledge and I remember he mentioned several times of Ash's legspin capability along with the batting talent. But how Shakib is utilizing his bowling arsenal is awsome! I'm lovin' it!!!

Everything is going on perfectly for Shakib & Co. I would like to see what Shakib does when things are not going according to plan.

i agree - i would quite like to see Sakib's captaincy against a top notch side; he could potentially be the key between us losing or winning a closely fought match - we have been on the losing side way too often in those cases

lol, what happens when he bats? I guess he gets tired of thinking by the time he gets the pads on.

He is a big turner. He has got the wicket taking luck also. It is good to see Shakib is using him properly.
