Or even Nafees. You say Shakib thrives under pressure, well T20 is a high pressure game and all the new talents have shown that they can cope with it from multiple angles of different players.
Lets try to remember that BPL's quality is still pretty iffy. Its one thing to hook Danza Hyatt for a six and another to straight drive Tait for one. Thus, very few of the BPL heros will actually cut it at international level. I never doubted Sabbir's ability, but I didn't think he had the temperament. But he's proven that he can be a limited overs player now.

Shakib is both our best batsman and our best bowler. If he is unable to go in the Tests it leaves a massive gap.

If shakib can't play the tests I expect Marshall to come into the team covering for his batting with gazi and probably sunny doing the spin duties trying to cover for shakib on the bowling front.

Yeah you got me. In my haste didn't notice "test"; thought he'd be missing the whole series.

Yes, he's defo. an irreplaceable Test material.

As I said in another thread, Shak should go through next two tours as a batsman only. We don't have any tours after that for month, he can rest then (BCB should cancel his NOC for county).

This is keep getting interesting - Shakib is carrying an injury, he will go to Australia for treatment (at BCB's cost, I assume) and most likely won't be available for SL tour, but BCB can't make him take rest from BPL!

BCB will also earn approximately $ 200K USD if Shakib plays the whole BPL for the Gladiators.

I hope that is not why he is playing. He is way more valuable to Bangladesh and BCB!

My prediction:
Sakib will go to AUstralia
The doctors will say a surgery is not necessary immediately & he can continue playing with some chances
So Sakib will come back home & might not or will play the Test series but will definitely play the ODI series vs SRL

Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out of Bangladesh's tour to Sri Lanka next month after it was decided that he will undergo surgery this week on his left calf muscle. His involvement in the Zimbabwe tour in April is also in doubt, as it will take him six weeks to return to active cricket, according to BCB's chief medical officer, Dr Debashish Chowdhury.

"Shakib will be out of action for at least six weeks after the surgery," Chowdhury said. "BCB has granted him permission to undergo the surgery. BCB president Nazmul Hasan agreed to release him as per the advice of the specialist in Australia."

the question is : what has he done since the last series against west indies...very dissapointed with this...money talk, country doesn't matter

DHAKA, Saturday, 23 February 2013

Media Release

Injury update on Shakib Al Hasan

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan underwent an MRI and a compartmental pressure study test at the St. Vincent’s Clinic in Sydney on Friday. The tests re-confirmed that Shakib is carrying lower limb exertional injuries.

BCB sports physician Dr. Debashis Chowdhury said: “The tests were taken under the supervision of Dr. Scott Barnes who is an expert in lower limb injuries and the reports are consistent with our earlier findings that he has exertional compartment syndrome, stress reaction and tenoperiostitis of the shin on his right leg.

“Dr. Barnes has reviewed the injury and his suggestion is that for the exertional compartment syndrome Shakib should undergo a release operation. Taking into consideration Shakib’s importance to Bangladesh cricket and for the long term benefit of the player the BCB’s medical team has decided to endorse Dr. Barne’s suggestion. Shakib is expected to have a biomechanics test on Sunday and after that a date for the surgery will be scheduled which should be before the end of the week.

“He is expected to be able to resume playing in 4-6 weeks after the surgery.”

“For his other injuries the BCB medical team in consultation with concerned specialists will device a long-term management plan which would include rehab and biomechanical correction if required.”

The Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra is in constant contact with the world's number one ranked Test all-rounder.

This is ridiculous . He missed WI series due to the same injury ,got 3 months before the next intl series ,played almost the full BPL and will undergo surgery just prior to the next series which means he will miss next two int'l series but will confirm his participation in IPL!! I don't know who has to be blamed for this ? BCB or Shakib himself ??

shakib is having a hard time. he should concentrate more on intl duties than on leagues. ipl, bpl, slpl these 3 are taking 4 months of the year including champions league and other odd leagues.

Absolutely ridiculous from BCB! Why didnt BCB ask him to go to AUstralia before the BPL! The Sri lanka tour is the most important tour this year!

Shakib is to blame for this - professional game, jaani it is a short career abong taake taar long term financial security niye bhabte hobey, but we deserve better than this.

Bangladesh>BPL>IPL>County Cricket

Also jaani board is scared to upset star player, but eto spineless holeo cholbe naa. We need to be at our best against SL

Its the BCB's fault primarily. To be honest, national teamers sould be paid their BPL money regardless of whether they play or not. That way Shakib could have easily skipped and got his treatment. If the franchises don't want to pay, the BCB should compensate him as its in the BCB's best interests for Shakib to be available for all international tours.

Big blow. Question is, who will replace him. We don't have any other all rounders.

BPL e khelar dorkar chilo na. I expectedbetter from Shakib. SL series was suppose to be our chance to show up and perform and now we don't even have our number 1 player. If he skips SL tour and than goes to play IPL than people will start questioning his commitment, I know I will.

I wonder if Dhaka owners have any power to put pressure on Shakib/BCB to delay his surgery. I know 1 or 2 IPL franchises were all up for forcing players to play despite injury concern, I hope that's not what happened here.

All I can say is best of luck to him. He is way to valuable to take any risk on him. One SL tour is not worthy of taking any risk.

We'll do well even without him, I believe.
