Shakib picks up two nominations at ICC annual award
Shakib has been nominated for the ICC cricketer of the year and Test player of the year award.
This is the time for graduation for the boy. He was nominated before for the ICC emerging player of the year award
ICC award night will be held on 1 October 2009. He may not win any award, but this is a great achievemnt for the young Tiger.
He is the probably the youngest cricketer to be nominated for the ICC cricketer of the year award.
Full nominations

Dilshan is more deserving for the win. Shakib is awesome though. He is a gem cameo.

this great news. Thanks.
and yes this does deserve a new thread, otherwise I wouldn't have read it. I hate those threads on "everything about......" so many important/interesting stories get "lost" in mostly uninterested ones.

That's a good news indeed. Hope he wins at least one. But these categories are tough to win for even a subcontinental cricketer. Best performers in Ashes generally is a hot favourite for the best test cricketer.
If cricketer of the year is going to be awarded on statistics, shakib has a chance.
NB: Editor can use editorial quotas, While a common member would have still posted it in the official everything thread. May be if he won a prize a special congratulation thread could be appropriate as a seperate thread.
But I personally won't mind having everything in 'everything thread'

Or, the Pak-Indu-British gong wanted to confirmed that Shakib won't be the #1 in ODI.
If he is in the list they have no other choice but to nominate Shakib the #1....

We didnt play enough ODIs against good teams.
Only a couple against NZ and SL.
Not enough extraordinary performances from Shak.

Everything has a reason. Had he been nominated in that category, they might have had to give him the trophy. Now that is a big. BD player getting a real recognition?
On the other hand, there are many test players who will get it or deserves it more. So putting his name here is just a formality to keep BD fans, officials happy.
This is how ICC nominators dish BD.

so calling on all the stats gurus... what are the realistic chances of Shakib actually winning the award?

I am not a stat guru but just reading the article I don't think he has a chance to make it even in the short list (top three).

I think Shakib will be in the shortlist and may be even in the top 3 but for sure won't win it. My bet is on Dilshan.
But you are right in your assumption why they didn't pick him for the best ODI player of the year..........these ICC shows are all but a show within a show. I'm never sure of my feelings when I hear these nominations for BD players.
